NW Rankin At A Glance: The NorthWest Rankin Cougars enter Friday night’s contest at Madison Central winners in two of their last
three games. It’s been an up and down season for head coach Tyler
Peterson and his Cougars, but he has his team positioned to grab the
fourth and final playoff spot out of Region 2-6A. On offense, NorthWest
Rankin will go with sophomore Braden Smith at quarterback. Smith
has led the Cougar offense to a 22.1 points per game average. In the
backfield, NorthWest Rankin leans heavily on senior Ricky Price, who
leads the Cougars in every rushing statistical category. At receiver,
Smith has a great target in 6’0, 180 lb. senior Gralyn Jones, Jr. Defensively, the Cougars are led by senior strong safety Shelton Wallace,
who leads the team in tackles. Also on defense is senior linebacker
Cannon Gibbs. Rounding out a good Cougar defense is sophomore free
safety Jalen Hoover. A win over Madison Central Friday night will put
NorthWest Rankin in a position to possibly clinch a playoff berth next
week at Murrah.
