Press Release SATT South East, “Accelerator of Technology Transfer”, concludes its second license agreement with Ab Initio Medical, and creates a new 'Business & Start-‐up Development' department SATT South East finalizes a license agreement for an innovation targeting the neonatal intensive care training market. SATT creates its own Business & Start-‐up Development department to work more closely with regional companies Marseille, France, July 19, 2012, the Technology Transfer Accelerator company, SATT South East, concludes its second license agreement with the company Ab Initio Medical in Meyreuil (South of France). This transfer of a technology patented by the Aix-‐Marseille University and the Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Marseille (group of public welfare institutes and hospitals) is the outcome of research led by Pr. Umberto SIMEONI from the Neonatology Unit at the Conception Hospital in Marseille. The research focuses on developing an innovative simulator capable of teaching medical students and staff tracheal intubation in the field of neonatal intensive care. SATT finalized negotiations that were started by Protisvalor (subsidiary of the Aix-‐Marseille University) and Valorpaca (shared technology transfer organization in the Provence-‐Alpes-‐Côte d’Azur (PACA) region) to transfer this technology to Ab Initio Medical SAS, an innovative start-‐
up based in the PACA region, which has benefited from pre-‐seed funding and support from the inter-‐university business incubator called Impulse. “Our goal is to offer a range of extremely realistic robotic patient simulators for neonatal medical training. Training in simulation labs that reproduce hospital and clinic conditions is a fast-‐growing business. In this context, Ab Initio Medical will be innovating with a simulator concept for newborns, which marks a complete technological breakthrough and makes up for the existing lack of efficient resuscitator dummies”, said Cyrille MICHAUD, Chairman of Ab Initio Medical. “Following this first license, we intend to extend our range of simulators to adults with the goal of transforming Ab Initio Medical into a key player in medical simulation. With these innovative products and services, we will be able to stand out on a growing global market”, he pursued. “SATT South East has met its early objectives and concluded its second license agreement! We have finalized the transfer of a technology developed by a regional academic research body to a regional start-‐up” declared Olivier FRENEAUX, SATT President & CEO. “We recently set up a Business & Start-‐up Development department to work more closely with companies in the region, particularly SMEs. Our objective is to support their development and foster an entrepreneurial mind-‐set by creating innovative businesses in the PACA region and Corsica, through partnerships with business incubators”, continued Didier NOEL who was recently appointed head of this department. SATT South East is therefore focusing its attention on the regional economic fabric by setting up a Business & Start-‐up Development department. This department covers activities and services available to companies, such as licensing, creation of start-‐up, assistance in buying innovations, etc. P RESS R ELEASE SATT S OUTH E AST – J ULY 19, 2012 - 1 -
