The Mini Metric Olympics

The Mini Metric
Olympics
Students will become
familiar with metric units
by estimating and
measuring in a “Metric
Olympic” setting.
Form a team of 4 people!
On the count of 3…
Point to the person you want
to be your Team Captain.
The person with the most
fingers pointing at them will
be the team captain!
1… 2… 3!
Key Question:
How closely can you match
your estimate and your
actual measurement in
metric units?
There are a total of
6 stations!
Each station has a lavender
task card.
Each person gets a
recording sheet.
Team Captains:
Read the task card to your
team.
Captain should make sure
each team member has an
estimate recorded before
anyone performs the task!
Here is what the
recording sheet and the
task cards look like!
At your first station:
Before you begin, please
cut apart the meter stick
and tape together!
Take it with you to each
station as you travel!
Your task:
1. Complete each station and record
results. (Don’t forget estimates first!)
2. Find your score—
~Find the difference between your
estimate and actual for each event
(record in last column)
~Add your scores in the last column and
record where it says “total”.
~Team Captains record who has the
lowest score in each event and then
also the lowest total score for your
team!
