AUPE contribute to a strong public service

AUPE contribute to a strong public service
“AUPE is part of the Singapore story”, said Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for
Culture, Community and Youth & Second Minister for Communications and
Information. He mentioned that AUPE union leaders have “tirelessly
endeavoured to represent public servants and ensure that they have fair
working conditions.”
He thanked all leaders and members of AUPE who had worked hard to
enhance the well-being of workers, and contributed to a strong and
responsible union movement in Singapore. He added that AUPE’s work is
special because “you contribute to a strong public service in Singapore.”
Mr Lawrence Wong noted that AUPE leaders realised they had a social role to play in the lives of
public officers. Hence the AUPE Multi-purpose Co-operative (MPC) was founded. The MPC has
now become a “critical support network” for members in times of need.
He also announced that the Registry of Co-operative Societies will be launching an updated Code
of Governance next year to help co-ops such as the MPC safeguard the interests of its members’
deposits.
Mr Lawrence Wong was speaking at the AUPE National Day Dinner on 28 August 2015 at Orchard
Hotel Singapore. This year’s annual event is special as the MPC is also celebrating its 50th
Anniversary, in conjunction with the nation’s Golden Jubilee.
450 guests comprising AUPE and MPC
members, brothers and sisters from NTUC,
SNCF, MCCY, and management partners
came together for the triple celebration.
The story of MPC was showcased through a
fascinating sand art performance, a video,
and a special commemorative magazine.
