BSSC Spurs (43) Blue Magic (103) Vs. GATA (61) BSSC Grizzles (56) Vs. The Slayers (68) GAME 1 The Spurs enter our night’s first game against the undefeated Men In Black, looking to capture their first win of the season. This would be a heavy task considering, much like many teams that play Men In Black, were the underdogs of the night. In the opening minutes of the game it looked was a stand still as neither team could seem to hit a basket. Once Men In Black dropped their first points, there was no looking back as they took a dominating lead early. The Spurs, Stacey Ball, stepped up to the plate to keep his team in the game as he scored 16pts and had 4 rebounds, which was a career high game for him. The Spurs were outdone by Carlos O’Neal as he scored 26pts on the night, only one of which was a two pointer. O’Neal was virtually unstoppable from the beyond the line. Men In Black take down The Spurs and move to 4-0 but fall to second place on the season as the Spurs are now 0-4 and still looking for that first win. GAME 2 Blue Magic looks to try and fight their way to the top by outscoring the leading Men In Black since their time to play hasn’t come yet. They enter the game against GATA to do just that. Blue Magic boasted their second 100+ game this season as they held neck and neck until the second half when teammate Rodney Kerner took off. Rodney scored 26pts on the night as well as 8 rebounds and 3 steals. He was helped by teammate Duke Mosley who scored 23 pts, hitting all three’s except one two pointer. GATA’s Chris Calhoun and Reggie Coleman both scored 19pts a piece against the Blue Magic defense as they each combined for 11 rebounds. GATA’s heavy player, Jameson Jones scored 18pts in the game after showing up at half time. GATA isn’t able to hold on and lose grip to fall by 40pts. Blue Magic moves to 4-0 and are now the season standing leaders because of their average points for. GATA loses their second in a row and falls to 2-3. GAME 3 The game of the night has the surprising third place Slayers against the Grizzles. The Slayers have had a good season thus far, only losing two games, look to extend their wins to three. The Grizzles had a hard time keeping Slayers player, JoJo Martin contained as he was the nights high scorer with 30pts. Martin also had 13 rebounds and a single steal. The Grizzles were missing their star player, Walter Sharpe, until the final minutes of play. The team was left on the shoulder of David Hall who scored 22pts and grabbed a single rebound. Hall had a career high game with the Downtown Y league but it wasn’t enough to contain the Slayers as they lose by 13. The Slayers move to 3-2 on the season, holding tight to the third place standings spot as the Grizzles fall to 1-4 and still looking for that second win. Top Scoring Leaders 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
