File location: j:\sjc\information technology\windows deployment\win 7 su10\project - charter.docx
Objectives:
This project will upgraded the district’s workstations to the latest operation system in order to
maintain program compatibility, security, and efficiency. It is anticipated that this resulting
upgrade will provide better user experience with lower downtime from improved security and
improved productivity from newer features.
1. Pilot 1 – Test Windows 7 internally to find and refine any initial software issues or
hurdles
2. Evaluate the Pilot 1 phase
3. Upgrade deployment servers to assist with deployment of operating systems
4. Pilot 2 – Test Windows 7 in a small group of users in order to find and refine further
software issues and hurdles
5. Evaluate the Pilot 2 phase
6. Develop a deployment plan and timeline for each department
7. Send communications and training materials to stakeholders
8. Deploy Windows 7
9. Evaluate the deployment successes and failures
Conception:
This project was discussed and developed during Information Technology staff meetings. We
have skipped the last operating system upgrade and it’s more eminent that we bring our system
up-to-date. The growing number of security issues, incompatibilities, and encroaching end of
support with our current standard operating system (Windows XP) is pressuring us to pursue
this Windows 7 deployment project.
