1999 Pollok Golf Club A very wet windy day: ‘the West at its worst!!’ After lunch and refreshments the teams emerged to do battle with the elements and of course their opponents! Edinburgh was keen to inflict their first defeat on Glasgow, Jake exhorted Glasgow to play well and so avoid such a disastrous result. The match was swinging Glasgow’s way. The next two games, however, went to Edinburgh. Bob Irvine, was severely handicapped when the wind and rain doused his pipe and Alec Reid won their match. Match 6 was therefore decisive; with all to play for, Archie Hutchison and Charlie McEwen clinched the Cup for Glasgow, for the third successive year. On such a stormy day the clubhouse was a welcome haven. Nevertheless everyone proclaimed that the entire day had been hugely enjoyable with much inter-city camaraderie, sportsmanship and bonhomie. We looked forward with anticipation to the Millennium match. Andy Graham Glasgow won by 4 games to 2 Douglas Bell, Geo McKelvie, John Dall, Archie Hutchison; Alan Smith Captain Edinr; Ian Sherret; Charlie McEwen; John Savin.
