Mr. S. M. Junaid holds two Master degrees, one in Administrative Science from the
University of the Punjab in 1970 and the other in Defense and Strategic
Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University in 2004. He is a retired Federal
Secretary (BS 22). During his service he remained posted in various
positions in the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Environment, Ministry
of Water and Power, AJK Council Secretariat, Economic Affairs
Division and Establishment Division etc.
After his retirement he joined CIIT, Islamabad in Oct 2010 and has been responsible for
establishing the Faculty Development Academy. He is currently Chairman of the Advisor’s
Forum since June 2014.
Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan obtained his PhD from the University of Bristol (U.K) in 1971.He
worked in the Federal Ministry of Education for almost three decades at
senior positions ranging from Planning, Finance, Literacy, Mass
Education, International Students etc. He served the United Nations in
Kosovo as Principal International Officer (D1) and Head, Ministry of
Education, Science and Technology.
Presently, Dr. Khan is working as Advisor, International Office in CIIT.
R. Ch. Aas Muhammad joined Civil Service of Pakistan in 1978 after getting through
C.S.S. examination and completing one year administrative training from
Civil Service Academy Lahore. He started his service as Section Officer in
the M/O Food and Agriculture and served Production Division, M/O
Sciences and technology, Cabinet Division. He got the degree of M.Sc
(H.R.) from the Victoria University of Manchester, UK in 1989 under
British Council scholarship. He also completed a six-week course in the
Strategic Management from the University of Tehran, Iran in 1994.He retired in 2006 after
serving the Government of Pakistan for more than thirty years.
He joined COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) in 2006 as Project
Director and served in that position till 2008. After completion of the Project, he was transferred
to the Directorate of External Campuses as Advisor. Presently, his services have been placed
under Directorate of Research and Regulation.
Dr. Abdul Waheed S.I., POP, joined Pakistan Atomic Energy commission (PAEC) in
1966 after his M.Sc. from Government College (now GCU) Lahore and
retired from PAEC in 2007 as Director/Chief Scientist. He was consultant
in NESCOM, 2007-2008. He is Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics from Edinburgh
University in 1975 and has worked as Research Fellow in Tandem
Accelerator Lab, University of Uppsala, Sweden in 1979. He has attended
a number of workshops in ICTP, Trieste, Italy. His expertise is in the
field of Nuclear Instrumentation, Nuclear Physics and Plasma Focus Device and its applications.
Dr. Waheed did useful work on Fast Neutron Physics for his Ph.D. degree, in Edinburgh
and R&D work in PINSTECH and had published papers in international journals of repute. He
established laboratories of national importance in PAEC and due to his immense contribution
and successful achievements in different projects of national importance, he was awarded
President Award of Pride of Performance in 1999 and Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2006. Dr. Waheed joined
CIIT in Feb 2009 as Advisor and is contributing significantly in the programmes of CIIT. He has
68 international publications in reputed journals with a total Impact Factor of 70 to his credit.
Mr. Ahmad Javed Jafri, the Ex-Treasurer of CIIT, is a Fellow member of the Institute
of Cost & Management Accountants of Pakistan. In his 40+ years of
service in Finances, it was his privilege to serve two big and prestigious
Universities/Institute of Higher Education by joining them at their
infancy stages. This gave him invaluable opportunities to propose, draft,
get approved, implement, improve and revise the Financial Systems of
those organisations. Another feather in his cap is the framing of many
Statutes and Rules of Allama Iqbal Open University and COMSATS Institute of Information
Technology. Establishing of Endowment Funds, Pension Funds and Group Insurance and
Benevolent Funds of both of these organisations are hallmarks of his career.
Professor Dr. Amir Haider Malik completed his MS and PhD from the Technical
University Berlin, Germany. His PhD thesis was related to Hydrology of
the Lei-Basin, Islamabad, Pakistan.
He is handling two DAAD funded projects, namely, Sedimentation
of Large Dams, Case Study of Indus at Tarbela Dam, and Conversion of
Organic solid waste into Bio-coal. He is also principal investigator (PI) of
one of the research project “50 years of sustainable urban development of
Islamabad?” which has been funded by HEC.
Presently, he is working as Advisor for the Centre for Climate Research and
Development (CCRD), CIIT. He specializes in Water Resource Management, Environmental
Impact Assessment and Solid Waste Management. He has published large number of research
papers with high Impact Factor in reputed foreign journals.
Dr. Asrar Muhammad Khan obtained B. Sc. Hons., M. Sc. Degrees from University of
Sind, Jamshoro, Pakistan. Later on, he completed his Ph.D. in Botany from
the University of Sydney, Australia. After Ph.D. he traveled extensively
and visited 32 countries. He worked for Robertson Research International
UK in their laboratories in Singapore and Calgary, Canada. Dr. Khan
returned to Pakistan and worked for Hydrocarbon Development Institute of
Pakistan for 24 years. He also worked as Chief, Qarshi Herb Research
Centre.
Currently Dr. Khan is Advisor in Biosciences Department .His assignments include
teaching Plant Sciences and research on plant tissue culture.
Mr. Aziz Ahmed Qureshi did his Masters in geology from Peshawar University in 1973.
He served Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission for 34 years in field for
uranium exploration and in Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and
Technology (PINSTECH). In the field he located a site having good
uranium reserves, while in PINSTECH he produced useful results on
uranium exploration, earthquake prediction, rock dating etc. He has
authored/coauthored about 100 research papers. He visited abroad twice as
a IAEAs’ fellow. He is recipient of four gold medals for his academics and meritorious services.
Prof. Dr. Fauzia Yusuf Hafeez (T.I.) obtained her PhD. from Quaid-i-Azam University
Islamabad / Wageningen University, Netherlands. She worked in the
Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) for nearly three decades as a
leading scientist (Head, Deputy Chief Scientist NIAB/NIBGE) in the field
of Plant Microbiology.
She developed a number of commercial Biofertilizers for the benefit of the farmer
communities and supervised overseas establishment of Biofertilizer technology in Mongolia,
China, Myanmar, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sudan, and Tanzania.
Her services in Agriculture have been highly recognized nationally and internationally.
She was awarded “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” by the President of Pakistan, for her scientific contribution
in Agricultural Biotechnology in the country. In addition to “SCIENTIST OF THE YEAR” she
was awarded GOLD MEDAL, PAEC for her services in Agriculture and “HONORARY
PROFESSOR” at Gansu Agricultural University, Lanzhou, China. She completed more than ten
National and Internal funded research projects successfully. She has supervised more than 77
PhD/MPhil/MSc/BS students with more than 120 research publications and edited/contributed
chapters in 08 books.
She is the first who introduced Plant Sciences in COMSATS and established PlantMicrobe Interaction Group in the Department of Biosciences, COMSATS Islamabad. She served
as Professor (TTS), Chairperson and Head of Department in COMSATS for more than five
years. Presently Dr. Fauzia Yusuf Hafeez is working as Advisor, Biosciences in CIIT.
Mr. Ghulam Haider is an engineer having studied at the University of Peshawar. He got
his MS in Energy Resources from the University of Pittsburg Pennsylvania
and a postgraduate diploma from the Netherlands.
Mr. Haider has almost four decades of experience working in the
energy sector. Most of his work related to planning, budgeting, evaluation
and appraisal of Energy Sector Projects besides framing policies at the
national level in the Planning and Development Division. Mr. Ghulam Haider has been working
as Advisor in CIIT since 2009 and currently runs a massive programme in Energy Management.
Prof. Dr. Gul Muhammad obtained M.Sc. Geography with distinction in 1969 from
University of Peshawar and M.Sc. Natural Resources Research and Land
Evaluation, UNESCO Course, from University of Sheffield in 1978. In 198384 he completed his Ph.D. degree in Human Geography from School of
Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He worked as a
Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Edinburgh in 1985 and DAAD Visiting
Professor in Freie Universität Berlin in 1997 and 2003. He has also been visiting faculty at
University of Rome in 2006. A significant portion of his work is devoted to Tribal Coexistence
and their Socio-economic Integration. He became the Fellow of Royal Geographical Society,
London in 1978.
Prof. Dr. Gul Muhammad is Advisor, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology,
Islamabad since 2007.
Dr. Hameed Ahmed Khan is a veteran physicist, who holds the highest degree of
Doctor of Science (D.Sc) in Physics from Birmingham University (UK)
& has headed the COMSATS for eight years. Following 40 years of
scientific and administrative experience at Pakistan Institute of Nuclear
Science and Technology (PINSTECH), Dr. Khan was awarded the two
highest civil awards of Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Sitara-i-Imtiaz, among
several other scientific awards and fellowships. He has more than 530
publications to his name and has supervised more than 50 postgraduate & postdoctoral students.
He is currently the Advisor Physics to the Rector of COMSATS Institute of Information
Technology (CIIT).
Mr. Iqbal Muzaffar joined CIIT on 6th April, 2009 as Advisor (Endowment Fund) and
was soon elevated to the position of Director, Office of Development in
which capacity he is presently working.
After completing his 4-years Bachelor of Pharmacy from Punjab
University, he appeared in the CSS examination, landed in the Pakistan
Taxation Service and rendered 36 years with the Government of Pakistan.
He retired, as Director-General (Audit), Federal Board of Revenue in December 2008.
Dr. Javaid Anwar received his PhD in the year 1994 from the Quaid-i-Azam University,
Islamabad. Dr. Anwar is working in the field of theoretical/experimental
quantum optics / quantum information science. His main area of research
includes; quantum noise quenching in optical amplifiers, non-classical
properties of the radiation field, quantum entanglement absorption of nonclassical light in atoms using EIT, production and detection of single
photons. Before joining COMSATS Institute of Information Technology,
Islamabad in 2004 as Associate Professor, he served in the Education Department Government
of the Punjab.
Mr. Manzar Abbas, currently an Advisor in the Physics Department of CIIT Islamabad,
obtained his M.Sc and M.Phil. (Physics) from Islamabad University (now QAU). He served as
lecturer Physics, in Govt. College Rawalpindi from 1977 to 1982. He joined
National Institute of Silicon Technology (now PCRET) in 1982 and served
there for twenty years as researcher in the field of renewable energies, solar
cells, thin films, and semiconductor technologies. He joined Department of
Physics CIIT in 2002 and served there for eight years. Since his retirement,
he is serving as Advisor in Physics Department CIIT and continuing his
research, and teaching assignments. Mr. Manzar Abbas has more than 60 publications in
international journals and conferences in the field of solar cells, thin films, and sensors.
Dr. Maqsudul Hasan Nuri is Adviser (International Relations Program), Dept of
Humanities, CIIT. Earlier, he was Co-Founder of Centre for Policy Studies,
CIIT (2013-14). He also served as President, Islamabad Policy Research
Institute (2010-12). He holds PhD (International Studies) from University of
South Carolina, Columbia, USA; Diploma (International Studies), Graduate
Institute of International Studies, Geneva, Switzerland; M.A. (International
Studies), Australian National University, Canberra, and M.Sc. (International Relations), Quaid-iAzam University, Islamabad. With fellowships in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and USA, he has
attended national and foreign conferences and presented academic papers. He occasionally
contributes to national English dailies on issues of national/ international importance and has
been also visiting faculty to many universities.
Mr. Mazhar Habib has done his Masters in English Literature from Punjab
University and MS in English Language Teaching (ELT) from the
University of Essex, UK. He has to his credit over 39 years of teaching
experience. All along his teaching experience, he had also held
administrative posts such as Head of the Department and Incharge Student
Affairs in CIIT. In PAF – the organization he served for 25 years – he
edited PAF premier journals ‘Shaheen” and “Flight Safety” Newsletter and
thus, earned Chief of the Air Staff Commendation Certificate for meritorious services.
Being one of the pioneers of CIIT, he has been fortunate to work under the dynamic and
visionary leadership of Rector, Dr. S.M. Junaid Zaidi HI, SI.
Dr. Mirza Mansoor Beg studied at Government College Lahore and later did his PhD
from University of Birmingham UK in 1968. He did his postdocs at
UKAEA, ICTP Trieste, Kernfor schungzentrum Karlsruhe Germany,
Atomic Center Swierk Warsaw and DAEK Denmark. He served in
PAEC from 1963 to 2000 in various scientific positions. During this time
he set up many high technology labs. He worked as Director and
Director General of important multi- discipline PAEC institutes. He was
Director of the Chaghi Nuclear Tests.
From 2000 to 2008 he worked as Member Technology NESCOM. During this period NESCOM
designed and developed all type of ground, air and sea delivery systems and most of their
subsystems. The unmanned aircraft and air launch cruise systems were also developed. Dr Beg
visited related labs in many countries including Australia, South Africa, UK, USA, Germany,
Sweden, Italy and China.
Dr. Beg was awarded President Award of Pride of Performance and Hilal-e Imtiaz for his
services to the nation.
Brig (Retd) Muhammad Rafi Butt, Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) obtained Masters degrees
in Statistics, English and Educational Administration (with Distinction) in
1970, 1983 and 1993 respectively, all from the University of Punjab. He also
attended an Interpretership Course in Turkish language from NIML (now
NUML) and qualified with Distinction. He served for over 32 years in the
Army Education Corps in various instructional, staff and command
appointments, such as, Deputy Commandant Military College Jehlum (an Army Cadet College),
Director Publications (GHQ), Principal Army Burn Hall College for Boys (Abbottabad) and
Director Army Education (GHQ). Since joining CIIT in 2004, he has been serving as Advisor /
Head Faculty Development Programme (now FDA), Controller of Examinations, and Advisor
Administration, Islamabad Campus.
Presently, Brig® M. Rafi Butt is working as Advisor Research & Regulations Wing in CIIT.
Chaudhary Muhammad Rafiq belongs to a respectable family of Zamindars from
Gujrat. He graduated from the University of the Punjab and entered into
Civil Service of Pakistan. He qualified the Central Superior Services
Examination in 1983 and 1985 conducted by the Federal Public Service
Commission, Islamabad. In addition to participation in other short courses
arranged by NIPA, Karachi in 1988 and Pakistan Administrative Staff
College, Lahore in 1989, he completed 63rd Advance Course in
Management at the National Institute of Public Administration, Lahore
from February 6, to May 27, 1993. He served the National Assembly Secretariat in
administration, public relations and legislation wings in different positions and was appointed
Secretary, National Assembly of Pakistan in February 2005 and officiated as such till December
2005. During service in the National Assembly of Pakistan his main interest and assignments
were relating to the Business of the house i.e. Parliament.
In his official capacity, he participated in several Inter-parliamentary Conferences in
Europe, Asia, United Nations and America including his attachment in the House of Commons,
U.K. from January to March 1991 for Parliamentary Practice and Procedure and obtained
certificates from the clerk of the House of Commons and Minister of State for Foreign and
Commonwealth Affairs and Minister for Overseas Development.
Mr. Muhammad Rafiq is presently an Advisor in CIIT and Project Director, Lahore Campus.
Mr. Mukhtar Ali Malik has obtained Postgraduate Diploma in Development
Administration from UK. He is a retired civil servant. He has worked in
the Federal Government for about thirty five years in various capacities
and has retired from Government Service in a senior position. He carries
with him rich experience of administration and financial disciplines.
Presently, Mr. Mukhtar Ali Malik is working as an Advisor Research and
Regulation Office in COMSATS Institute of Information Technology.
Dr. Mumtaz Fatima Jafri, working as an advisor in Faculty Development Academy
(FDA) at CIIT, got her M.Sc. in Applied Psychology from the University
of Punjab. She did MS in “Counselor Education” and PhD with two majors
(Counseling; and Educational Psychology) from Indiana University, USA.
Her career started from F.G. College for Women F-7/2, Islamabad, where
she headed the Department of Applied Psychology for almost three
decades and remained associated with local universities of twin cities as
well. She also worked as an Associate Prof. in International Islamic University, Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia for five years.
In addition to her current position as Advisor, FDA, she is also the pioneer Secretary of
the Advisors’ Forum.
Dr. Noor. M. Larik obtained his Postgraduate Diploma from the Victoria University of
Manchester (UK) in mathematical statistics, Master of Science in applied
statistics from the University of Southampton (UK) and PhD in
econometrics also from the University of Southampton (UK). He worked as
Associate Professor, University of Sindh; Associate Professor Al-Fatah
University, Tripoli Libya; Chief Statistician, Pakistan Council for Science
and Technology (PCST) and Director General, Federal Bureau of Statistics as head of the
organization, Ministry of Finance.
Presently Dr Larik is working as an Advisor Department of Mathematics (CIIT).
Mr. Qamar Shah Khan did his Diploma in Civil Engineering from NED Engineering
College, Karachi. He passed the Departmental Examination including
Technical and Accounts in 1973 for further promotion in the Department.
He started his career at Pak. PWD and was retired as Executive Engineer
Pak. PWD, Islamabad. He also served as Director (Technical) Federal
Government Employees Housing Foundation, Islamabad since 1991 to
1995. He worked on numerous mega projects such as Construction and
Maintenance of Police Buildings, Refugee Quarters at Karachi, Educational Buildings and
Family Suites at Islamabad including Presidents House, Rawalpindi and Ministers’ Residences at
Islamabad. He was associated as Consultant in COMSATS headquarters from April 1997 to
March 2002.
Currently, Mr. Khan is serving as Advisor Buildings in CIIT since April 1, 2002. He is
responsible for construction and maintenance of civil works/real estate of the Institute for the last
twelve years. He works for extended hours to the envy of even the younger colleagues. He has
experience of over 50 years in the field of construction and maintenance of buildings.
With a mosaic of vast experiences in genres of English literature
and language in both the fields of teaching and training, Dr Samina
Nadeem has been providing services in education from school to
university level for almost four decades. Her Master’s in English
Language Teaching from Warwick University, U.K. and Ph.D. in
Linguistics from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad enabled her to
blend in fruitful experimentation academically and administratively as
Director and later Principal (Model Colleges), Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad.
As an Advisor, Department of Humanities CIIT, she is specially associated with the
newly launched programme of MS in English (Linguistics and Literature).
A Library & Information Scientist, having more than 28 years experience in the field of
Llibrary & Information Science, she is one of the founding staff members
of CIIT, (COMSATS’ H.Q. May 1996-April, 1998; May 1998 to date
CIIT, Islamabad)
As a key-post holder, Syeda Nasreen Sultana served several
prestigious educational/research organizations of the country, including the
Army Public School, Jutial, Gilgit; Cadet College Mastung, Baluchistan; National Institute of
Historical & Cultural Research, Islamabad; COMSATS Headquarters and COMSATS Institute
of Information Technology, Islamabad.
A writer, poetess and an amateur photographer, she has contributed several
articles/papers on issues related to the modern Library & Information Services, Social issues, e.g.
women, peace as well as literary articles).
Mr. Shahid Hameed is a Civil Engineer by profession. He did his BE from NED
Engineering College (now NED Engineering University Karachi) and then
did his MBA with majors in Project Management. He joined
the Engineering service under Ministry of Housing works in 1975 and has
some major engineering projects to his credit. He also headed the
Pak PWD and Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation
(FGEHF) as their Director General.
Presently, Mr. Shahid Hameed is working as Advisor/ Chief Executive, COMSATS
Employees Housing Foundation (CEHF) of CIIT.
Dr. Syed Masood Ahmad Pasha, a Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgeon by profession,
joined COMSATS Institute of Information Technology in Oct 2009 as Advisor Health. He
retired as Executive Director Federal Government Services Hospital in
2009 after 36 years of government service. He established the Department
of Trauma and Emergency and Department of Thoracic Cardiovascular
Surgery at Federal Government Services Hospital. He remained head of
these two departments starting in early 1980’s till his retirement in 2009.
He was nominated by the federal Ministry of Health for Tamagha-i-Imtiaz,
Sitara-i-Imtiaz and Pride of Performance. He is looking after the projects of Faculty of Health
Sciences particularly the hospital project of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology.
Mr. S. M. Hasan Zadi did his Masters degrees in Economics and Development
Administration from Punjab University, Lahore and University of York, UK
respectively. He belongs to second common batch of civil service. After
serving in different federal ministries, he retired as Additional Secretary
/Director General Ministry of Ports and Shipping.

Organization (ECO), Tehran for 5 years. Presently, he is Advisor in Federal Development
Academy (FDA), an in-service institute of CIIT.
Dr. Shahid Nadeem Qureshi obtained his PhD from University of Hamburg, Germany.
He served WAPDA (Power) for four years after MSc prior to joining
Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad in 1974. He remained in the
Department of Earth Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University till 2008. Later, he
served in Quaid-i-Azam and Bahria University as visiting faculty. He has
published a number of research papers in national and international
journals.
Presently, he is Advisor in the Department of Meteorology, CIIT Islamabad.
Dr. Tariq-Ur-Rahman has a Masters degree in Physics from Punjab University and a
PhD in Materials Science from the University of Hannover, Germany. After teaching for two
years at the Quaid-e-Azam University he joined the Ministry of Science and
Technology in 1984, where he served first as Director (Training) in charge
of the S&T Scholarship Programme (1985-90) and then as Science
Counsellor at the Embassy of Pakistan, Beijing (1990-96). He subsequently
headed the International Liaison Wing (1996-2001) and the Policy &
Coordination as well as the Planning & Development Wings of the Ministry
(2001-05). In May 2005 he was appointed as Chairman, Pakistan Council for Science and
Technology (PCST) from where he superannuated in 2009. He is working as Advisor in the
International Office, CIIT since September 2010.
Prof. Waqar Haider Bokhari joined CIIT in 2004 as Adviser Electronics. He played a
leading role in establishing the Bachelor of Electronics program in the Department of Physics.
He is now working as Head, R&D Lab CIIT. Prof Bokhari has remained the
Chairman of Electronics Department, University of Peshawar from 1993 to
1998. Thereafter he joined private sector industry and worked there for five
years as Electronic Consultant prior to joining CIIT. He has over 50
international publications/conference presentations to his credit. He has
supervised over 60 BS and MS research theses. His fields of interest are
Microprocessor-based Design and Solar Thermal Energy for domestic and industrial
applications. He has developed a number of high-tech products like Electronic Voting Machine,
Electronic Score Board etc.
Mr. Ikram ul Haq obtained his M.Phil. in Theoretical Physics from Quaid-e-Azam
University
Islamabad.
He
worked
in
Pakistan
Atomic
Energy
Commission, since 1975, in Nuclear Engineering Division and later on in
the field of Computer Science. He also worked in Kernforschungszentrum
Karlsruhe, Germany. He was awarded an IAEA Fellowship to do MS in
Computer Science (1983), frome Wales University, UK. He taught
postgraduate students at
Computer Training Center Islamabad. After
serving for 27 years in PAEC, he retired as Chief Scientific Officer in 2002.
Mr. Haq is working with COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) as a
teacher, since November 2001 and teaching various subjects including Operating Systems,
Introduction to Programming, Real Time Systems, Introduction to Compiler Construction and
Distributed Systems to BS, MCS, MSE and MS students. He also worked as head of the CS
department for one year. Currently, he is Advisor to the CS Department in CIIT, Islamabad.
Mr. Abdus Shakur has 38 Years of work experience in diverse areas of government,
non-government and multinational organizations in home and outside the
country. He also possesses well-developed analytical and problem-solving
skills – particularly in areas of Management, procurement of equipments/
different items, and managing people.
He has hands-on experience and skills in research, reverse engineering, and
hardware/software
development. Mr. Shakur has also taught in prestigious institutions.
Presently, he is teaching, managing and imparting skills as Advisor at COMSATS Institute of
Information Technology.
Dr.Shafaat Ahmed Khan, a medical doctor holds two diplomas, one in Tropical medine
and Hygiene from New York Medical College, New York, USA and the
other
in Ultra sound from the department of Preventive medicine and
department of Radiology, USA. Subsequently, he obtained Master of Public
Health and Doctor of Medicine, USA.In addition,Dr. Khan holds several
licences and fellowship from the College of International Physicians, New
York, USA.
Dr. Shafaat Khan has remained consultant Skill Development Council, Consultant
Diagnostic Ultrasound and taught Public Health and Pathology as Associate Professor at
Islamabad campus of Hamdard University, Karachi.
Dr. Khan has vast teaching experience and has also contributed immensely towards
research. He is autthour of several text books.He has also written a number of grant proposals for
the international funding agencies.
Presently, Dr. Shafaat Ahmad Khan is working as Advisor and Head, Informatics
Department, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad.
Dr. Amir Jafri returned to Pakistan in 2009 after spending over three decades at various
universities in the United States.
After completing his
doctoral work in Rhetorical Studies and Hermeneutics at The
University of Oklahoma in 2003 he set up the Department of
Communication at Davis & Elkins College, West Virginia,
taught there, and supervised the department for five years.
Before joining CIIT, Dr. Amir Jafri served as the Dean
at Hamdard Institute of Management Sciences (HIMS), Karachi, where he trained the thirty
member faculty, supervised an eighty member staff, and rejuvenated the dormant department.
Before that assignment, he chaired the Department of Management Sciences at Karakorum
International University, Gilgit, for two years.
His seminal work “Honour Killing: Ritual; Dilemma; Understanding” was published by
Oxford University Press in 2009. The book is now available at major bookstores in paperback.
Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, currently an Advisor in the Physics Department of CIIT,
obtained his Ph.D. in Semiconductor Physics/Solid State Electronics from the University of
Manchester in 1974, after completing his M.Sc. (Physics) from the
Government College, Lahore (now GCU) in 1968 and M.Phil.
(Theoretical Physics) from Islamabad University (now QAU) in 1969.
He joined the physics department of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) as
a faculty member in 1970. He established the first Semiconductor
Physics Research Laboratory in the Country at QAU, which he led until
his retirement as Meritorious Professor of Physics and Dean, Faculty of
Natural Sciences, in 2009. The Laboratory is known for many M.Phil and Ph.D. graduates it has
produced, in addition to its impact through a number of publications in international journals and
conferences in the field of semiconductors.
Mr. Zulqarnain Jaffery graduated from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad in 1978,
obtaining M.Sc. (CS). as a pioneer student. He was employed by a well
reputed company in Dubai to work for their Software development.
Subsequently, he joined UAE University as a Lecturer/Software
developer. Afterwards, he joined Sultan Qaboos University in Musat,
Sultanate of Oman as in charge of their Admissions/Registration system.
He worked at SQU for almost 10 years and designed/implemented a
purpose built Student Records System comprising an automated Admissions system along with
many other projects.
He returned to Pakistan in 1999 after acquiring a strong academic and Project Management
skills in a multinational environment. He joined CIIT in September 2000 as Asst. Professor,
having a distinction of first ever Faculty member of the institute. He successfully organized and
monitored “Post Graduate Diploma in IT” during the first 3 years of service. Afterwards, he
joined CS faculty to teach BS, MCS classes. He retired in 2012. He assisted the Ministry of
Education (Curriculum Wing) to set up the curriculum of Computer Science for all provinces of
Pakistan, including Federal Board.
Presently, Mr. Zulqarnain Jaffery is working as Advisor, COMSATS Institute of
Information Technology.
Dr. Mais Suleymanov is a physicist with two academic degrees: PhD (1980) and Dr. Sc.
(2000) obtained from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR),
Dubna, Russia. His area of specialization is High Energy Physics. He has
been working in the Department of Physics CIIT Islamabad from July
2006 as a Foreign Professor, till 01.02.2014;
an advisor from
01.02.2014 till to date. Before Pakistan he worked in: the Institute of
Physics National Academy of Science Azerbaijan Republic; the JINR;
the Institute of Nuclear Physics Academy of Scenes Czech Republic.
While working at CIIT he has supervised 6 PhD students out of which 3 have already
received their PhD degrees. Dr. Suleymanov is a member of prestigious international
organizations like ALICE LHC CERN (Switzerland); PANDA GSI (Germany); NICA/MPD
JINR (Russia) Collaborations. He is author of 207 published scientific papers with total Impact
Factor greater than 150.
Dr. Mohammad Aslam Khan earned his PhD degree in Laser Physics from the
University of Hull (England) in 1974. He also received specialized
trainings on Laser Technology at various prestigious international
universities of Europe, America and Australia. He also served
Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Al-Fateh University, Libya;
King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran,
Saudi Arabia; and GIK Institute (Topi).He remained Foreign Faculty
Professor before taking up his present assignment as Advisor in the
department of Physics in 2014.
Dr. Khan played a key role in establishing a world-class Laser Research Laboratory at
KFUPM. and CIIT, Islamabad. He has been Project Manager / PI / Co-PI of 14 research projects
including 3 sponsored by Industry. He participated in and presented several Workshops/Short
Courses on Good Teaching Practices, Developing Communication Skills, Promoting Critical
Thinking & Active Learning, Lasers & their Applications, Faculty Research Development, and
Writing Winning Research Proposals.
Dr. Khan is a prolific researcher and has 128 Journal / Conference `publications with a
cumulative Impact factor of about 100.Considering his intimate involvement in the researches,
Dr. Khan was elected a Fellow of Pakistan Academy of Sciences in 2008.
Dr. Muzaffar Al Qureshi, earned B.A. in Public Administration from American
University of Beirut, M.A. in Public Administration from the University
of Punjab, Lahore, and M.S. in Management Science from the University
of Southern California. He obtained his PhD in Managerial Economics
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute NY, USA.
Prior to his teaching career at the University of Punjab
Dr. Qureshi moved to Gomal University in 1974 as its first professor and
Chairman of Business. Administration.department.. He also served as
Secretary of Literacy& Mass Education Commission, Government of Pakistan.. Subsequently,
he. Jjoined Quaid-e-Azam University as Professor and Chairman of Admin. Sciences
department. He remained director of SZABIST Islamabad and Foundation University Institute of
Management and. Computer Science.
Dr. Qureshi. Joined CIIT in January 2004 as Advisor and also served as Dean Faculty of
Business Administration. He has numerous research papers to his credit and has published a
book on ‘Understanding Technological Change, ‘He has also edited a book on Pakistan-Canada
Relations-50 years.
Prof. Dr. Nasim Zafar obtained her Ph.D. degree in 1972 from the University of
Cambridge, UK in Nuclear Physics. She joined Quaid-i- Azam University
in 1973 as Assistant Professor of Physics. She was engaged in teaching
and research at the post graduate level. Her area of specialization has been
experimental semiconductor physics and experimental nuclear physics.
She served Quaid-i- Azam University for almost three decades.
Due to her vast experience and high academic profile, she remained a Member of the
Selection Committee of prestigious Rhodes Trust Scholarship, Pakistan for several years .In
addition, she has also served as member of Board of Faculty of three federal universities and has
been on the Selection Board of Federal Public Service Commission..
Prof. Dr. Nasim Zafar retired from QAU as Professor of Physics in 2007. Currently, she
is serving as an Advisor at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad.
Ambassador Fauzia Nasreen is a retired diplomat, who served in various missions abroad
in different capacities as well as had served in the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs in various positions. During her diplomatic assignments abroad,
she served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Nepal and Poland (with concurrent
accreditation to the Czech Republic) and Pakistan’s High Commissioner
to Australia (with concurrent accreditation of the Fiji Island).She was
awarded Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit by the government of
Poland.
Since her retirement Ambassador Fauzia Nasree has taught as a visiting faculty in a few
universities in Islamabad. She has worked as Advisor in the Centre for Policy Studies in
COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad from January 2013 to June 2014;
she is working as Advisor in the Department of Humanities of COMSATS from July 2014 to
January 2015. She is currently heading the Centre for Policy Studies.
Prof. Nargis Khalid is an Artist and Educator. She did her Masters in Art Education
from Rhode Island School of Design, USA. She has taught in various
colleges and universities in Pakistan and abroad. She has also
participated in several solo and group juried shows in the United States,
Middle East and Pakistan.
With considerable experience in the unique field of Arts and
Design to her credit, she was hired by Higher Education Commission
(HEC) as a Foreign Faculty Professor and her expertise placed at the disposal of CIIT.
Presently, Professor Nargis Khalid is working as Advisor in COMSATS Institute of
Information Technology (CIIT) in the department of the Architecture and Design. She lectures
on Art Appreciation, Geometry and Proportion in Design, and History and Philosophy of Art and
Architecture.
Syed Tanvir Abbas Jafri is an engineer turned Civil Servant. He secured third position
in the Civil Services Competitive Examination and joined the
District Management Group Mr. Jafri did his M.B.A from
Georgetown University, Washington D.C (USA) and is also a
graduate of K.U.L (Belgium) and Economic Institute Colorado
(USA).
Mr. Jafri has held responsible positions in the provincial
and federal Governments pertaining to the field, secretariat and state owned enterprises. He also
served as Member Directing Staff at the Pakistan Administrative Staff College Lahore for
several years.
Presently he is on the faculty of Management Sciences and also incharge of the CHINA
STUDY CENTER at the Islamabad campus of CIIT. His interests include technology transfer
and economic integration.
Prof. Zain ul Abedin is an Advisor at CIIT, he joined COMSATS in 2006 and has
served as HOD, Chairperson, Dean and a member of the BOG. An
Architect by profession graduating from UET Lahore in 1979, he also
holds degrees in Urban Design and Business Administration from Oxford
Brookes UK. Professional experience in across Pakistan and Saudi Arabia
ranges from interior design to master planning of institutional projects. He
is a member of and has served on national professional bodies. For detailed

Dr. Muhammad Azim is one of the few officials who joined COMSATS Institute of
Information Technology when it was in its embryonic stages, in 2000 .He
was Associate Professor/Incharge Sir Syed Campus, and has contributed, at
various positions.
He was chairman of the departments of Mathematical Sciences and
Physics. He added BS(Maths), BS(Electronics) and Graduate program in
both Physics and Mathematics to the three undergraduate programs offered at that time.
He has also to his credit the establishment of CIIT Attock campus. He worked as its
Director for four years. He was then elevated to the position of Director Academics at which
position he worked for another four years before superannuation. Considering his rich and varied
experience both in Academics and management in the government, he has been on various
important committees and bodies of CIIT such as Central Executive Committee, Finance and
Planning Committee, Ad-hoc Selection Committee, Selection Board and Board of Governors of
the Institute, and Management Committee of NTS.
Currently, Dr. Muhammad Azim is performing assignments of strategic importance
specially entrusted to him by the Rector.
Dr. Akhtar Hussain has the honor to be the first PhD faculty of CIIT. He is in
teaching/Research profession for the last 42 years. During his career he
taught a variety of courses not only in Pakistan but also abroad
(Nigeria). He completed his PhD from Quaid-e-Azam University. His
fields of interest are "Diffraction of acoustic waves and fluid mechanics.
He has published a number of research articles in reputed international
Journals. He also served as first Chairman/HOD of Department of
Mathematics, CIIT Islamabad. Dr. Akhtar was also the chief organizer
of first ever two day workshop on computational mathematics and related topics held in
Islamabad from 29-30 July 2002, organized by CIIT Islamabad. He also worked as Director
COMSATS Attock Campus.
