THE 2011 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The State Championships will be held on the 18th & 19th June 2011 at Bacchus Marsh Racecourse &
Recreational Reserve. Balliang – Bacchus Marsh Road, Bacchus Marsh. The State event is for zonequalified Games, Flat and Musical teams. The first three overall placegetters in each Team Phase at the
SMZ qualifying competition eligible for State Championships will be selected to represent SMZ at the
State event.
Riders that qualify to compete at the State event who have been in pony club for more than two years
and are aged over 13 years (have passed their 14th birthday) must have attained their ‘C’ Certificate in
order to compete at the State event in accordance with criteria for state events in the PCAV Handbook
of By-laws 33.11.a.

Rules & Conditions
All teams need to refer to the PCAV Games Flat & Musical Championships Booklet for rules and
conditions relating to the event. The booklet can be downloaded from www.smz.ponyclubvic.org.au
The booklet contains games event description / rules and flat team riding tests.
Conditions of Entry
Entry is conditional upon acceptance of these conditions.
1. Entry Fee:
Games Phase $150.00 per team
Flat Phase $120.00 per team
Musical Phase $100.00 per team
*Clubs can enter multiple teams in all Phases
2. Composite teams permitted, however teams
are ineligible for State Championship event
(read SMZ general information).
3. Teams disqualified on competition day will
be permitted to compete, however team is
ineligible for State Championship event
4. Each team must have a team manager aged
18 years or over (read SMZ general
information).
5. Entering this competition constitutes
acknowledgement that PCAV rules apply and
acceptance of these rules.
6. The organising committee reserves the right
to cancel any class or competition; divide any
class; alter times; refuse any entry with or
without stating the reason.
7. No refunds after closing date except with vet
or medical certificate. An administration fee
of $10 will be deducted.
8. Competitors may ride more than one horse,
subject to the conditions of PCAV Handbook
of By-laws multiple horse rules.
9. PCAV club member cards must be submitted
to the event secretary before riding. Only
team managers submit team membership
cards (read SMZ general information).
10. Armbands must be worn and inspected at
gear check. Information must be visible and
legible.
11. Gear check is required for every team prior to
the first event in each Team Phase.
12. Horses must be at least 4 years of age. No
stallions, colts or rigs permitted.
13. Competitor numbers - the organising
committee will pre-allocate letters for games
teams. Team managers collect letter armbands
when handing in membership cards (read
SMZ general information). Flat teams
supply their own body numbers 1 - 4
14. Helmet spot checks may occur and incorrect
helmet will incur elimination.
15. Queries, protests, horse abuse rules as per the
PCAV Handbook of By-Laws.
16. Scoring as per State Championship 2011
Booklet (see pg 6).
17. Dogs are prohibited without exception.
18. Neither the organising committee of this
competition nor the PCAV accepts any
responsibility whatsoever for any accident,
damage, injury or illness to horses, riders,
ground spectators or any other person or
property.

SMZ General Information
Eligible combinations (horse & rider) may compete in all or any of the flat competitions (flat team and / or
musical team) and / or the games team.
Games Teams
Consist of teams of 6 or 7 riders. Six riders compete in each games event
The team manager may select any six combinations for any games event on the day
Description of games events 1 – 6 can be downloaded from SMZ website (PCAV State Championship
booklet)
The zone will provide competition armbands and hat covers for all games teams
Specific age requirements are required for the games team. Refer to page 16 PCAV State Championship
booklet
Flat Teams
Consist of teams of 4 riders
Riding tests can be downloaded from SMZ website (PCAV State Championship booklet)
Body numbers required. Club to supply own numbers (1 - 4)
Musical Teams
Consist of teams of 4 riders
Music and chorography created by the club. Participants are to provide their own music on competition day
Music to be on CD or MP3 (bring AUX lead)

Team Managers – Clubs must supply their own Team Manager armbands
Each team must have a team manager (18 years or over) whose duty it shall be:
 To present team membership cards (2009/10 & 2010/11) for inspection prior to competition starting.
 To present team Registration and EI forms on the day of competition prior to competition starting.
 To present team to gear check at allocated time
 To ensure that the team is ready to compete at allocated time.
 Armbands printed with words “Team manager” must be at least 160mm x 100mm and worn on both
arms

Composite Teams – For clubs that have interested riders but not enough to field games team
A composite team can be: 
A team made up of riders from different pony clubs

A club team that does not meet the specific age requirements (games event only – pg 16 PCAV Games
Flat and Musical State Championship booklet)

A club team that have riders that require their C certificate but have not yet attained it

Clubs must help individual riders organise composite teams. The event secretary will advise clubs which
clubs are searching for members to make up composite teams. Once clubs are notified it is then the
clubs responsibility to organise a team and submit an entry with payment by the closing date.
Disqualification
A team might be disqualified for the following reasons: 1) The team have members that require their C certificate but have not yet attained it. (Riders who
have been in pony club for more than two years and are aged over 13 years (have passed their 14th
birthday) must have attained their ‘C’ Certificate in order to compete at the State event)
2) The team (games only) have not fulfilled the specific age requirements. Teams in this situation
typically have too many riders in the 1st or 2nd age category. NB the entire team can consist of
riders under 14 years of age
i. Black group - 25 years of age or under (on the day of the State Finals)
ii. Green group - Under 17 years of age (on the day of the state finals)
iii. Red group - Under 14 years of age (on the day of the state finals)
3) A combination has not attended two mounted rallies in the 12 months preceding the activity (NB
combinations do not need to be grade to compete at this event)
