MRHS GIRLS BASKETBALL 2016-2017 Season MRHS BASKETBALL Our Mission: We are a comprehensive high school basketball program where all players are equipped with the skills to be productive student-athletes on and off the court. Our Vision: We are a Group II State and Shore County Title contender each year. In addition, we cultivate an atmosphere where all players develop a sincere love of the game. Principles vs. Rules: It is our belief that rules hinder a student athlete’s ability to be an individual while also being a part of a team. As a result, we will follow principles instead of rules within the MRHS basketball program. These principles are based around time-tested approaches to the game of basketball. 1. Hustle at all times (We don’t take plays off) 2. Be Ready (We will be accountable, on-time, and we will listen) 3. Team first attitude. (Pick teammates up at all times, cheer for teammates) 4. Compete, Compete, Compete. (Compete fairly at all times) Coach + Player + Parent Relationship: We encourage all players to feel comfortable speaking with the coaching staff about any concerns they may have. As a result, we ask that players adhere to the following sequence of events when an issue arises. Adhering to our belief that the team comes first before any personal issue, we ask that any communication be done before or after a practice, not the day of any game. 1. Player will speak with the coaching staff personally before or after practice. 2. If issue is not resolved, player will speak with the Athletic Director. 3. If the issue persists, a meeting will be set up with player, coaching staff, and the Athletic Director 4. Finally, after exhausting the first three lines of communication, a meeting will be set up with the player, parent, coaching staff and Athletic Director. Schedule of Events: For our vision to come to fruition, players and coaches must work year round to ensure success on the court. The following outline of events demonstrates the commitment level the coaching staff and players will have to dedicate themselves to in order to be successful. 1. Spring Workouts (All returning players will be provided a strength and conditioning program. Also, I highly suggest finding an AAU team to play for or play a sport that will keep you conditioned). 2. Summer Season (We will have practices and participate in a Summer League) 3. Fall Workouts (More conditioning in the weight room or on the track) Participation in outside teams/lessons: During the varsity basketball season no MRHS Basketball player will be allowed to participate on a team outside the high school basketball team. If you have any questions regarding this policy please come speak to Coach Biri. MRHS BASKETBALL Uniform Policy: All players will wear basketball attire for all practices (laces tied, appropriate shorts, reversible practice jersey). Uniform game rules in terms of sleeves/braces/headbands have also changed so be sure coordinate with teammates. Bus Policy: All players will conduct themselves properly on bus rides. Players must be seated and are expected to be quiet, and hence focused on the game at hand. Players may listen to music or do work but there should be no conversations. At the conclusion of away games all players will ride the bus back to the school, any requests to ride home with parents must be presented to Coach Biri 24 hours in advance for approval (see form on school wires page). To build team chemistry, it is important that players who ride on the bus to the game also ride back with their teammates. No garbage will be left on the bus. Coaches will conduct a bus check at the conclusion of each away game. Missed Games/Practices: Any unexcused absence from a practice or game will result in sitting out the number of games you missed for being absent. For example, if you miss a game because you go on vacation with your family during the season, you will need to sit out the first game when you return. It is not fair to the players who are making the commitment to be at all practices and games. Any excused absences must be approved by the coaching staff. School Behavior: As a player, you represent your family, your school, and are a direct reflection of the coaching staff. Therefore, you are expected to be respectful to your teachers, be on time to school/class, and accountable for your actions. Surround yourself with the right people. Academics: Your grades will always come before basketball. Failing classes are unacceptable. As a teacher myself, if you are focused in class and using your time wisely, there is no excuse not to pass. You will not be eligible to participate in practices or games if you are failing a class. If you are struggling, see me and we will develop a plan for success. Insubordination: If any player does not follow the principles that have been outlined in this packet, the coaching staff will meet with the player to discuss disciplinary action. ________________________________ (Player’s Signature) ________________________________ (Parent’s Signature) *Please list one goal for each question: Team Goal: _________________________________________________________________________ Personal Goal: _______________________________________________________________________
