Trinity Basketball Coaching Staff Mr Ben Morrissey 1sts Basketball Head Coach Director of Basketball Coaching MIC Basketball Sports Centre Manager Assistant Sportsmaster (winter) Ben has now been charge of Trinity Grammar’s Basketball program for well over a decade where he has enjoyed great success coaching the 1sts to eight CAS premierships. On top of that he has taken Trinity to the NSW All Schools ‘Semi Finals’ in 2003 and also seen Trinity reach the NSW CIS Cup Final five times, winning in 2003. Ben has also organised four Development tours to the United States and built Basketball to be the largest sport in the School. Born in Wollongong, Ben represented NSW at U/16, U/18 and U/20 level captaining his state on three occasions. He also gained All Australian U/18 selection in two consecutive years. His senior career began in Sydney when he was only 18 playing in the National Basketball League for West Sydney Westars and then in the inaugural season with the Sydney Kings in 1988. Ben returned to his hometown to play with the Illawarra Hawks for another three seasons which included two trips to the USA playing against some of NCAA top colleges, before taking up a position with Channel Ten Sport in the Illawarra covering the NBL as sideline commentator. He also spent some time playing in the SEBL League with the Sydney Comets and West Sydney Slammers. His coaching career began with Nazareth College, Bankstown where he guided them to back-to-back National Schools Championships in 1986 and 1987. Heading back to Wollongong Ben coached Edmund Rice College to their first NSW All Schools Championship in 1993. Since returning to Sydney in 1999 to work at Trinity, he has been an Assistant Coach with the 2001 NSW Metro under 16 Men’s Team. Then he spent three seasons (2002 - 2004) as an Assistant Coach with the Sydney Comets A.B.A. Waratah League Men’s Team. During that time they won the Waratah title on all three occasions and in 2003 and 2004 made it to the Australian Basketball Association National Semi Finals. Ben then took up the Head Coaching role with the Bankstown Bruins A.B.A. Team where he led them to their first ever Waratah League Semi Final appearance in 2005 and then again in 2006. Mr Chris Barnes 1sts Basketball Assistant Coach Housemaster History & IB Teacher MIC AFL Chris has been a senior coach in the GPS/CAS school systems for 10 years. He Coached Shore School's 2nds team to two championships, and also coaching the firsts to back-toback Championships. At one time his record stood at 30 wins without a loss after three undefeated seasons across the Firsts and Seconds. During his time at Shore he also fulfilled the role of Master in Charge of Basketball and Director of Coaching. For his role in these successful programs, he received the Beaufighter's Medallion for contributions to the School. He has been the co-coach of the Representative GPS 1sts and 2nds. After two years of playing and coaching in the Peruvian University competition, Chris returned to Sydney to work at Trinity and in his first season with the School in 2008 he coached the Trinity 2nds to their inaugural CAS Premiership and then three successive winning seasons with the 2nds. In 2011 Chris joined Ben Morrissey to work with the 1sts where they have enjoyed great success winning CAS Premierships in 2011, 2012 and 2013. As a player Chris represented NSW at the National Championships, twice as an under 16 player and twice as an under 18 player. Playing for Manly for fifteen years, he won the State Championship in 1993 and went on to represent Manly at both the Youth League and State league level for 5 years. As a schoolboy Basketball representative, he was selected as part of the NSW CHS and NSW All Schools teams. In his final years as a player he was part of the Sydney Kings Youth Team in the CBA and the Western Sydney Razorbacks reserves also in the CBA. Mr Ben Treloar 2nds Basketball Head Coach Middle school Housemaster Technology & DesignTeacher MIC Snow Sports Ben has been a member of staff since 2008, after completing a Bachelor of Education (Design and Technology) at Sydney University he was placed as a Technology and Design teacher. He quickly became part of the Basketball coaching staff and began developing players in the Middle School. In 2009 he successfully coached the Trinity 9As to an undefeated Premiership and he also became part of the Specialist Basketball program. In 2010 Ben become the assistant coach of the 2nds to Chris Barnes. In 2011 Ben became the Coach for the 2nds and remains in that role currently. Ben attended Newington College from year 7 to 12 and played Basketball right through high school. In Year 10, Ben became the captain of the 2nds Basketball team that was successful with an 8-2 season. In his final years of year 11 and 12 Ben played in the 1sts Basketball team and was a member of the starting five in his final season.
