The CBT is overseen by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The NMC have created four distinct domains of learning which are to be tested: Professional Values; Communication and Interpersonal Skills; Nursing Practice and Decision-Making and Leadership, Management and Team -working. In addition to these four NMC Domains, there is the field-specific competency of Adult Nursing. These domains each incorporate a wide area of study for nurses preparing to undertake the CBT. The aim of this document is to signpost you towards the wide range of easily accessible resources available on-line, and in the hospital library, to help them to prepare for the test. Some of these articles, books and educational websites are core texts, whilst others are suggestions for further reading. Each of the resources listed will prove helpful to you during your studies, but this collection is intended as a guideline only. Hyperlinks are current as of December 2016. 4 Compiled by Ali Jones and Andy Lloyd December 2016 Essential Overview of NMC Requirements This NMC webpage sets out what they expect of trained overseas nurses wishing to enrol on the UK register: NMC “Trained outside the EU/EEA” retrieved from: https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/joining-the-register/trained-outside-the-eueea/ Following on from this, you can find essential links to the 4 NMC Domains, the field-specific competency of Adult Nursing, and the areas of theoretical learning to be covered here: NMC “Adult (general) Nursing” retrieved from: https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/joining-the-register/trained-outside-the-eueea/adult-generalnursing/ The following document is an online revision guide put together by a recruitment agency for their prospective employees to prepare them for undertaking the Test of competence Part 1 (CBT). The document helps to clarify the areas to concentrate on (including the various competencies in the NMC’s 4 Domains, as well as the Field Specific Competency of Adult Nursing): Search Recruitment “CBT Study Guide” retrieved from: http://www.searchrecruitment.jobs/admin/wgrane_pliki/file-cbt-study-guide[107].pdf 5 Compiled by Ali Jones and Andy Lloyd December 2016 Domain 1: Professional Values The Nursing and Midwifery Council's (NMC) 2016 Code “presents the professional standards that all nurses and midwives must uphold in order to be registered to practice in the UK”. Revalidation is a process stipulated by the NMC to ensure that nurses and midwives in the UK continue to remain updated with best practice, are reflective practitioners, and have fulfilled minimum time requirements for training and work.
