Student Government Association Minutes October 4, 2016 Call to Order A Moment of Silence Roll Call Approval of Last Meeting’s Minutes – Moved by Senator Garner and seconded by Senator Courville. Guest Speakers- Pi Kappa Alpha Department Headso Joey- R&J: Tiebreaker/Voting Violations. Senator Walker talked about elections and thanked everyone for helping. He also said that the tie breaker addition to the election code is finished. He also said to look out for violations. Senator Walker said to take down old fliers as well if you see them hanging up. He told all the senators as well to take a picture before taking them down and report to him, and every senator needs to bring them to him. Senator Walker also said that he is the only one that can take down fliers during the elections, but anyone can take fliers down once elections are over. He also said that campaign receipts need to be turned into him. An email will be sent out to all candidates about their receipts via email. o Kendrick - Student & Academic: Parent’s Day. Senator Jones said his committee met today about Parent’s Day. He said to sign up for shifts for the game. Registration will be open until tomorrow. He also reminded everyone to keep promoting for it. He encouraged everyone to bring up ideas in General Discussion about his committee because we are all here to help students on campus. He also said we will talk about postcards that went out so we can continue sending out postcards to parents. We also need to find maybe a cheaper way to promote Parent’s Day in the future to parents. o J’lyn- Campus Projects: Warhawk’s Best. Halloween Ball. Senator Henderson thanked everyone for delivering Warhawk’s Best letters to the businesses. She asked everyone to please be looking up websites for things for Halloween Ball as well as looking for DJs. She reminded everyone we do not have long until Halloween Ball because it is approaching fast. o Ashley- Promotions: Runoff Elections/Parent’s Day. Senator Hunter thanked everyone for promoting Parent’s Day and Homecoming. She also reminded everyone that runoff elections start tomorrow at 8 AM and end Thursday at 5 PM. Treasurer’s Reporto Budget- Banner was down so do not have budget today but scholarship for Chi Alpha, decal, and polos embroidering. o RSO Scholarships- 4 for October Secretary’s Reporto Office Hours (Wednesday-Tuesday) o Motion Forms: Please write motion forms in blue or black ink. o Warhawk’s Best counts as an office hour. o Parent’s Day and Homecoming Sign-Ups- Everyone needs 1 shift for Parent’s Day and 2 shifts for Homecoming plus office hours. Vice President’s Reporto Homecoming Update- Thank you to all who helped with doing the Homecoming board. We have the tent ordered, and everything is good to go. President’s Reporto Voter Registration- President Neal said everything is finalized. The food will be finger foods as well as vegetarian options. o Mrs. Betty- Mrs. Betty is doing better and has been in the office the past few days to say hello. o SGA Salutes You- President Neal said we are still waiting on updates from that. The dates are November 7th-12th where we will do a competition for mini care packages. o Committee Meeting- She thanked the STAP committee which works with the technology fee that is put on everyone’s bill. President Neal said that money is going to be used to revamp the SMART classrooms for the students. They approved in their budget today to revamp 8 or 9 of the rooms. The money is only to help students, and that is it. o Copy machines- President Neal said they are looking to be able to use your prints to copy instead of paying a dime. She also said that there will be a printer kiosk for different places on campus. Advisors Report o Runoffs- Advisor Jennings said that the administration asked for us to stick to Election Code and that we only let two people be in runoff for queen as well as king. That will go on for elections in the future as well that only the top 2 will be in the runoff. o Presidential Debate- Advisor Jennings said the next debate is this Sunday the 9th. She said that since we are doing a Voter Registration Day the day after that, we should go to promote that on Sunday. Dr. Joshua Stockley will be there to talk before, and we are looking into a new location to watch it. The debate starts at 8:00 PM Sunday night and the location is TBA. She said she will be giving updates on that as well. o Homecoming Meeting- The website is advertising it 9-11 instead of 11-1. It is fine because the shifts will still work, and we will just have to move job duties at all. o Mister Pageant- Advisor Jennings said we will talk about moving meeting for Mister Pageant next week. Old Businesso Vote on Phi Mu- The vote went as Y-33, N-0, A- 0. o Vote on Alpha Phi Alpha- The vote went as Y-32, N-,0 A-1. New Businesso Shifts for Parent’s Day and Homecoming- Vice President Belaire said we have shifts for Parent’s Day which is one day this Saturday, and Homecoming shifts are next Monday, Friday, and Saturday. o Homecoming Float Decorations Committee- Senator Aulds said we have a trailer for the float because we have a truck. Senator Jenkins said that we can get Spanish moss for the float, and he said we really need to nail down what we need for the float. The float has to be ready by 1 Saturday. He asked everyone that wants to help to stay after meeting. o Emergency Legislation- A motion was moved by Senator Melancon and seconded by Senator Jones for $500 for Pikes for Pups for Pi Kappa Alpha. The vote went Y-31, N-0, A-2. o Snapchat Filter- Senator Nowell passed around his snapchat filter for the Halloween Ball to all of the senators. General Discussiono Senator Phillips asked for the chalk boards to be replaced with white boards for the Toxicology program. o Mister Pageant- There was an interest vote and was passed to not have meeting next week. o Senator Green said she talked to her mom about DJ Grave Digga about DJing for Halloween Ball. She said she will send the number to Senator Henderson. o Advisor Jennings said that the parking lot by Brown will be taken up to get the floats in line for the parade. o Senator Hunter said that we could take plastic cups and design it for Halloween Ball to help promote it. President Neal said we can maybe pass out fliers with our Koozies to promote them. o Senator Garner said we should make BOO-Pops for advertising for Halloween Ball. o Senator Ingram suggested we add more benches and tables for Bayou Park. Advisor Jennings said it will be added to the list of ideas to do this year, and we will vote on the project of the year later this year. o Senator Jenkins suggested that we have a “comment box” to drop in ideas for SGA. o Senator Henderson said she wants students to be involved for events, and we should try to encourage students to give input for all of those events so we do not keep spending money on things to get the same amount year after year. o Senator Carrier asked to know if we get DJ Grave Digga for Halloween Ball. o Senator Sharkey suggested we have a time for students to meet with us before we have things like Lunch With The President. Advisor Jennings said we need to make an idea for people to want to come to that to not be intimidated. Senator Carrier suggested we do it in Bayou Park or the SUB. Senator Jenkins said we should have a “party” sort of slogan with it. Senator Nash suggested we have free food with it to encourage people to come. Senator Phillips suggested we do something to where people can write on the shirt just like the white board with Let’s Talk Warhawks. o Senator Jones suggested we make a “Talk to Me, I Can Help With Problems” t-shirt. o Costume Contest- An interest vote was taken to reward $150 for first place, $100 for second place, and $75 for third place.
