MEDIA TIMEOUT POLICY
1. There will be four media timeouts during each half. Each media timeout will last 135 seconds (2:15 minutes), with
the first horn sounding at 120 seconds (2:00 minutes).
2.
Media timeouts will occur at the first deadball after the clock has PASSED 16:00, 12:00, 8:00 or 4:00. When a
team-called timeout occurs within 30 seconds of a media timeout or granted after the designated time for a media
timeout when there has been no stoppage in play, it becomes the media timeout with the exception of the first teamcalled timeout in the second half which becomes a media timeout regardless of when it is called.
3.
4.
In case the deadball occurs as a result of a shooting foul, the timeout will be taken prior to the shooting of free
throws.
Each team shall have three (3) 30-second timeout, which are 30 seconds in length, and one 60-second timeout.
NOTE: The first called 30-second team timeout in the second half will result in a break that is 135 seconds in length.
The first called 30-second team timeout will not replace a forced media timeout. Example: Team A takes the first
called 30-second team timeout at 16:07 of second half. At the first deadball inside of 16:00, the official table would
take its first forced media timeout of the half and would have three media timeouts remaining.
5.
6.
7.
Each team may carry over two mini-timeouts and its 60-second timeout to the second half. Coaches also will be
given the flexibility to call consecutive 30-second timeouts in order to allow players to sit during the two timeouts. In
each overtime period, a team will carry-over the timeouts it had at the end of regulation and will be granted an
additional mini-timeout.
The timing procedure for the 30-second timeouts has the first horn sounding at 15 seconds and the second at 30
seconds. The timing procedure for the 60-second timeout is the first horn sounding at 45 seconds and the second at
60 seconds.
Following any media timeouts, the officials will advise the benches of the next scheduled media timeout.
8. If overtime occurs, the first team timeout will be 135 seconds (2:15 minutes) with the first horn sounding at 120
seconds (2:00 minutes). Any additional timeouts during overtime will last 30 seconds with the first horn sounding at
15 seconds.

MEDIA TIMEOUT POLICY
1. There will be a media timeout during each period and at the end of the first and third periods. Each media timeout
will last 165 seconds (2:45 minutes), with the first horn sounding at 150 seconds (2:30 minutes).
2.
Media timeouts will occur at the first deadball at or below the 5:00 mark in each period and at the end of the first and
third period. When a team-called timeout occurs before the 5:00 mark during each period, it becomes the subsequent
media timeout. The first team-called timeout of the second half will become a media timeout regardless of when it is
called.
3. In case the deadball occurs as a result of a shooting foul, the timeout will be taken prior to the shooting of free
throws.
4. Each team shall have three (3) 30-second timeouts and one (1) full timeout (60 seconds). The full timeout “floats” and
may be used in either half. Three of the four timeouts carry over to the second half. If a team does not call a timeout
in the first half, it will lose one 30-second timeout.
5. Coaches may call consecutive 30-second timeouts in order to allow players to sit during the two timeouts. In each
overtime period, a team will carry-over the timeouts it had at the end of regulation and will be granted an additional
30-second timeout.
6. The timing procedure for the 30-second timeouts has the first horn sounding at 15 seconds and the second at 30
seconds. The timing procedure for the full timeout is the first horn sounding at 45 seconds and the second at 60
seconds.
7. Following any media timeouts, the officials will advise the benches of the next scheduled media timeout.
8. If overtime occurs, the first team timeout will be 165 seconds (2:45 minutes) with the first horn sounding at 150
seconds (2:30 minutes). Any additional timeouts during overtime will last 30 seconds with the first horn sounding at
15 seconds.
