Name of Skill/Setting: Ask before using gym equipment
Purpose of Lesson (Why is this important?)
1. Recognize that gym items/equipment needs to used correctly
and taken care properly
2. To teach social acceptable use/getting permission to use
equipment in gym
3. Not to argue/fight over items/equipment in the gym
Teaching Examples
1. Example: You really want to use a ball laying on the floor.
You decide to ask Mr. Gardner if you can play with the ball.
Mr. Gardner says, “No,” it is in place for a game. Since you
asked Mr. Gardner, he decides to call on you to play/start the
game first.
2. Non-Example: As you are waiting for the morning bell to ring,
you see a scooter in the gym. You decide to run over to the
scooter and jump on it, as if it was a skateboard. The
scooter keeps moving right into another person, causing that
person to get hurt.
3. Example: Your class enters the Gym for Physical Education.
Everyone waits for instructions on today’s activities and use
of gym equipment. Everyone gets to enjoy P. E. today and your
classroom teacher is told how well everyone played safe.
Student Activities/Role Plays
1. Demonstrate and practice using the gym items/equipment
2. Read posted signs on how to use gym item/equipment in an
activity/station
Follow Up/Reinforcement Activities (Check for Understanding)
1. Verbal praise to your class for correctly using gym
items/equipment
2. Receive a compliment from another classmate on how well you
used gym item/equipment
3. Watch a few child using gym /equipment
