THE PARKING UTILITY AT YOUR SERVICE The Sheboygan Parking Utility is a municipal department dedicated to providing convenient and affordable parking options for the citizens and guests to Sheboygan’s beautiful downtown, Riverfront and South Pier districts. The Parking Utility is responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and appearance of the public parking lots in downtown, Riverfront and South Pier. The Parking Utility also provides maintenance at the Industrial Park and Heritage Square. In 2016, the Parking Utility continued weed control and upkeep on the downtown sidewalks and tree wells between Michigan Ave and Indiana Ave, 7th to 9th Streets consisting of over 30 blocks! In total, the Parking Utility maintains thirteen public parking lots in the downtown, three large lots on South Pier, four large lots in Riverfront and two lots in Heritage Square. The Parking Utility is also responsible for renting stalls in all the reserved lots and collecting revenue from over 850 meters in the downtown area amounting to over $150,000 in annual revenue. THE PARKING UTILITY ASSISTED THE DOWNTOWN BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT, SHEBOYGAN SQUARED, WITH ALLEYWAY ENHANCEMENTS. PLANTERS, BENCHES AND LIGHTING WERE ADDED TO MAKE THE ALLEYS MORE INVITING. DID YOU KNOW? The Parking Utility waters all the planters in downtown and on the boardwalk in South Pier. In fact, we use roughly 400 gallons of water per watering. Through dedicated and well-trained employees, the Parking Utility will be a City leader in safety. a. Conduct quarterly and as-needed safetyminded training for all employees of the department. b. Maintain zero lost hours due to a workplace injury. c. Conduct safety-minded training with all new seasonal staff and teach best practices and use of PPE. 2. The Parking Utility will investigate current and new ways to administer parking options to citizens, customers, and guests to Sheboygan’s downtown, South Pier and Riverfront districts. a. Conduct a parking study to analyze parking options and need. b. Monitor customer behaviors and provide best fit parking options. c. Investigate the need for a parking ramp. d. Investigate the need for additional gated lots to increase revenue and decrease assessments. 3. The Parking Utility will support improvements and enhancements that further promote developments and the quality of life in the downtown, South Pier and Riverfront districts. a. Replace flower planters on 8th Street. b. Complete additional alleyway improvements in downtown. c.
