CUMBRIA CRICKET LIMITED – PLAYER PATHWAY
Cumbria Cricket Limited/Cumbria Schools Cricket Association (CSCA) are committed to providing a clear pathway for
our youngsters as they progress through Junior Cricket and into the senior game – we call this the Player Pathway.
For many, this pathway begins at Junior School through Kwik Cricket, after which we hope to see our young cricketers
join their local club and play in one of three Junior Leagues spanning our County – The Barrow Junior League, the
Westmorland Junior League and the Cumbria Junior Cricket League.
The leagues offer competitive cricket for all abilities and for ages as young as 8 or 9 up to 15 or 16. We would hope to
see as many of our Juniors as possible go on and play senior cricket.
There is also, for a number of our youngsters, the opportunity to progress to a higher standard of Junior Cricket
representing their Junior Cricket League and ultimately going on to represent the County at their respective age
group. For the growing number of girls who play Cricket, Cumbria has its own Women’s and Girls section.
Several of our Junior County players have subsequently progressed onto the Emerging Players Program or joined a
First Class Academy. We hope that for some the Player Pathway will also lead to a place in the Cumberland Minor
Counties Team.
Following a series of consultations it is intended that the current Representative (District) Cricket Program is
restructured in 2013 and that a new process of nominating for League and County Trials will come into being during
the 2012 season.
The main benefits of the new nominations process and revised pathway are: One single nomination process (for all age groups) which will take place during the latter stages of the 2012
season and each season thereafter.
 Four regional outdoor trials (based on the geographical areas covered by our Junior Leagues) will take place
towards the end of the 2012 season. This will help to reduce administration, coaching and staging costs and
also minimise travel costs for parents.
 Four winter training squads will be chosen using a common selection procedure. Again, this regional
approach to winter training will help to reduce travelling costs and provide coaches with a longer window
within which to coach, develop and assess the squads.
 During the course of the winter training, players will be nominated from each of the four squads to become
part of the County squad at their respective age group.
 The remaining players will take part in a series of League Representative Games. Each of the four league
areas will operate teams at U11 (to also include U10s), U13 (to also include U12s) and U15 (to also include
U14s) age groups, thus ensuring that a higher standard of Junior Cricket is available to all ages and not just
to two age groups as it presently is. League representative games will take the form of Festivals with games
played at the same or nearby venues on the same day. Festivals (rather than individual one-off games) will
provide players with a greater opportunity to shine in front of parents, and representative coaches.

CCL coaches will be assigned to each of the four areas and supplemented by
coaches/team managers from the clubs within the area.
By Friday 15th June 2012
Each of the four areas will set dates and venues for trials and subsequent winter
coaching program. Dates must fall within the agreed windows. Trials will be
outdoor (but with a back-up of indoors)
By Monday 2nd July 2012
Nomination forms will be issued to Junior Leagues, Clubs and Secondary Schools
and will be available via CCL and League websites.
Each Club will submit one single nomination form listing all Junior players that
they feel are worthy for consideration for League Representative or County
Cricket and each age group between Under 11 and Under 15

By Monday 30th July 2012
Invitations to trials sent out from CC Ltd office (By e-mail and/or via Club). The
invite will set out the dates, venues and cost of the trial and subsequent winter
training.

28th – Trial ‘window’ opens, there will be three days of trials to fit into each
league area:

The trial window incorporates 6 days of the summer holidays for those areas
wishing to hold assessments through the week as well as 3 weekends for those
areas that wish to hold their assessments on Saturday’s or Sundays.
