EUROPEAN MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY The European Mathematical Society (EMS) is a learned society representing mathematicians throughout Europe, founded 20 years ago. It seeks to serve all mathematicians in universities, research institutes, and other organizations in higher education. Its main aims are to - promote mathematical research, - foster interaction between mathematicians of different countries, - establish a sense of identity amongst European mathematicians, and - represent the mathematical community in European institutions. Benefits of individual membership of the European Mathematical Society The principal reasons for joining the European Mathematical Society may be altruistic: to encourage European mathematicians to cooperate to support European mathematicians working under difficult circumstances to support efforts to get backing for mathematics from the European Union But there are benefits to individuals as well: EMS Newsletter - free Journal of the European Mathematical Society - discount on subscription European Mathematical Society books - 20% discount European Congresses - reduced registration fee European Mathematical Society co-sponsored meetings - reduced registration fee for some of them Zentralblatt - free access International Press - discount on books and journals Taylor & Francis - discount on books Reciprocity memberships available at the American, Australian and Canadian Mathematical Societies EMS Newsletter appears four times a year. It contains information about the Society, announcements of conferences, book reviews and articles of general interest. For further information visit the webpage at www.emsph.org/journals/journal.php?jrn=news The Journal of the European Mathematical Society (JEMS) the official journal of the EMS. JEMS publishes research articles in all active areas of pure and applied mathematics. These are selected by a distinguished, international board of editors for their outstanding quality and interest, according to the highest international standards. Occasionally, substantial survey papers on topics of exceptional interest will also be published. For further information visit the webpage at www.ems-ph.org/journals/journal.php?jrn=jemsis. If you are a member of the Turkish Mathematical Society you enjoy a 50% discount off the individual membership fee, which is €46, hence you can become an individual member for €23. Turkish mathematicians can join the European Mathematical Society in one of the following ways: Join the EMS as an individual member Either using the online facility (www.euro-math-soc.eu/pay_fees.html) or print out and fill in the application form (www.euro-math-soc.eu/application_form.htmland) and mail it to: Ms Terhi Hautala, EMS Secretariat, Dept of Mathematics & Statistics PO Box 68 (Gustav Hällströmin katu 2B), FI-00014 University of Helsinki, Finland (tel: (+358) 9 1915 1503, fax: (+358) 9 1915 1400, email: [email protected]).
