Psalms 51:3 - Hagerstown Church of Christ

The layout of the house was weird.
Each window had 13 panes, each
wall 13 panels, each closet 13 hooks
and each chandelier 13 globes.
Ps 6:6-7 - I am weary from my groaning;
with my tears I dampen my pillow and
drench my bed every night. 7 My eyes
are swollen from grief; they grow old
because of all my enemies. (from The
Apologetics Study Bible.)
Psalms 51:3 - 3 I know about
my sins, and I cannot forget
my terrible guilt.
CEV
Romans 3:23 - 23 for all have
sinned and fall short of the
glory of God, NASU
"In the entire realm of
psychological therapy guilt
is the most difficult
problem to address."
•"When I kept silent, my bones wasted away
from my groaning all day long.”
•"Woe is me for I am a man with unclean
lips”
•"If any one of you is without sin, let him be
the first to throw a stone at her."
•"I have cheated on my income tax for the past
seven years, and tonight my conscience is
troubling me to the point that I cannot sleep. I
have enclosed a $100 bill as my way of saying
‘I am sorry.’ If I find that I still can’t sleep, I will
send the rest of what I owe."
HOW SOME RESPOND TO GUILT
• SOME TRY TO RATIONALIZE
THEIR GUILT
"Since the car was
parked at the
cemetery, I just
assumed that the
driver was dead." I
GUESS HE OR
SHE DROVE TO
THEIR BURIAL…
' So they gave it to
me, and I threw it
into the fire, and
out came this calf."
LIE/DENY
•1 Samuel 15:2-3 - "Thus says the Lord of
hosts, 'I will punish Amalek for what he
did to Israel, how he set himself against
him on the way while he was coming up
from Egypt. 3 'Now go and strike Amalek
and utterly destroy all that he has, and do
not spare him; but put to death both man
and woman, child and infant, ox and
sheep, camel and donkey.'" NASU
•1 Samuel 15:8-9 - He captured Agag
the king of the Amalekites alive, and
utterly destroyed all the people with
the edge of the sword. 9 But Saul
and the people spared Agag and the
best of the sheep, the oxen, the
fatlings, the lambs, and all that was
good, and were not willing to
destroy them utterly; but everything
despised and worthless, that they
utterly destroyed. NASU
SOME PEOPLE TRY TO RUN FROM
THEIR GUILT
SOME FOLKS NO LONGER FEEL GUILTY
“I am,” said the man. “I still do it,
but I don’t feel guilty about it
anymore.”
Prov 30:20 - 20
This is the way of
an adulterous
woman: She eats
and wipes her
mouth, And says,
“I have done no
wrong.” NASU
HOW CAN WE BE FREED FROM
GUILT?
•ACCEPT AND EMBRACE GOD'S
FORGIVENESS.
• Hebrews 10:11-18 - 11 Every priest stands daily
ministering and offering time after time the same
sacrifices, which can never take away sins; 12 but He,
having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT
DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, 13 waiting from
that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A
FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. 14 For by one offering He
has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. 15
And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying,
16 "THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH
THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL
PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR
MIND I WILL WRITE THEM," He then says, 17 "AND
THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL
REMEMBER NO MORE." 18 Now where there is
forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any
offering for sin. NASU
Heb 9:12- 12 and not through the blood of
goats and calves, but through His own blood,
He entered the holy place once for all, having
obtained eternal redemption. NASU
•What did he obtain? Eternal
redemption.
•How many times did he enter into
the holy place to do this? Once for
all.
•Ephesians 1:7 - "In Him we have redemption
through His blood, the forgiveness of sins,
in accordance with the riches of God’s
grace..."
•Colossians 2:13-14- 13 When you were dead
in your transgressions and the
uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you
alive together with Him, having forgiven us
all our transgressions,
•Romans 8:1- "Therefore, there is now no
condemnation for those who are in Christ
Jesus"
Psalms 103:12 - "As far as the east is
from the west, so far has He removed
our transgression from us."
•Psalms 51:1-4 - Be gracious to me, O God,
according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the greatness of Your
compassion blot out my transgressions. 2
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and
cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my
transgressions, And my sin is ever before
me. 4 Against You, You only, I have sinned
And done what is evil in Your sight, So that
You are justified when You speak And
blameless when You judge. NASU
Luke 5:8
•“Go away from me, Lord; I am a
sinful man!”
•"Don't be afraid" Luke 5:10
•Ephesians 3:12-Because of Christ
and our faith in him, we can now
come boldly and confidently into
God's presence. Holy Bible, New
Living Translation
TO BE RID OF GUILT, WE MUST
CONTINUE TO CONFESS OUR SINS
•1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and righteous to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
•Romans 6:14 - Sin is no longer your
master, for you no longer live under the
requirements of the law. Instead, you
live under the freedom of God's grace.
Holy Bible, New Living Translation
1 John 1:7 –
"But if we walk in the light,
as He is in the light, we
have fellowship with one
another, and the blood of
Jesus, His Son, purifies us
from all sin"
"My dear children, I write this to you so
that you will not sin"
(1 John 2:1).
•1 John 1:8-10 - If we say that we
have no sin, we are deceiving
ourselves and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and righteous to forgive us
our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness. 10 If we say that
we have not sinned, we make Him a
liar and His word is not in us.
TO GET RID OF OUR GUILT, WE
MUST FIGHT TO OVERCOME
SIN.
• "When He comes, He will convict
the world of guilt in regard to sin
and righteousness and
judgment...“ John. 14:8
