We, the members of the Drake University Student Senate, in accordance with our duties and bylaws, do hereby pledge
our support for the organization Campus Connect and grant them all the rights and privileges of a full University
organization.

MOTION SS [151015] – A; Campus Connect Approval
To approve the recommendation made by the Student Affairs Committee (SAC), in accordance with the Rules and
Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate.
1.
Whereas, it is the duty of the Student Senate to confirm the approval of new organizations at Drake University;
2.
Whereas, Campus Connect has fulfilled all the necessary requirements to be an organization at Drake University;
3.
Whereas, the purpose of Campus Connect is to help Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and Evangelical
Lutheran Synod (ELS) college students to grow in their faith so that they can reach out to other college students with
the gospel;
4.
Whereas, Campus Connect will be a part of Drake’s religious organization community;
5.
Whereas, Campus Connect, will be open to all Drake students and there are currently no groups on campus with this
mission available to students;
Now, therefore, be it
Moved. That Campus Connect be recognized as a full and official organization of the Student Senate, with all the rights
and privileges thereof.
We, the members of the Drake University Student Senate, in accordance with our duties and bylaws, do hereby pledge
our support for the organization Drake University Film Society and grant them all the rights and privileges of a full
University organization.

MOTION SS [151015] – B; Drake University Film Society
To approve the recommendation made by the Student Affairs Committee (SAC), in accordance with the Rules and
Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate.
1.
Whereas, it is the duty of the Student Senate to confirm the approval of new organizations at Drake University;
2.
Whereas, Drake University Film Society has fulfilled all the necessary requirements to be an organization at Drake
University;
3.
Whereas, the purpose of Drake University Film Society is to come together in a social way to view and appreciate
cinema;
4.
Whereas, Drake University Film Society will be a Special Interest Organization;
5.
Whereas, Drake University Film Society, will be open to all Drake students and there are currently no groups on
campus with this mission available to students;
Now, therefore, be it
Moved. That Drake University Film Society be recognized as a full and official organization of the Student Senate, with
all the rights and privileges thereof.
We, the members of the Drake University Student Senate, in accordance with our duties and bylaws, do hereby pledge
our support for the organization Spikeball Club and grant them all the rights and privileges of a full University
organization.

MOTION SS [151015] – C; Spikeball Club Approval
To approve the recommendation made by the Student Affairs Committee (SAC), in accordance with the Rules and
Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate.
1.
Whereas, it is the duty of the Student Senate to confirm the approval of new organizations at Drake University;
2.
Whereas, Spikeball Club has fulfilled all the necessary requirements to be an organization at Drake University;
3.
Whereas, the purpose of Spikeball Club is to spread awareness to play a competitive sport that brings people
together in a fun, recreational manner;
4.
Whereas, Spikeball Club will be a Special Interest Organization on Drake’s campus;
5.
Whereas, Spikeball Club, will be open to all Drake students and there are currently no groups on campus with this
mission available to students;
Now, therefore, be it
Moved. That Spikeball Club be recognized as a full and official organization of the Student Senate, with all the rights
and privileges thereof.
We, the members of Drake University Student Senate, in an effort to support programming that improves student life, to
better the experience of Drake University students, and to provide a memorable experience to students, do hereby
move that $1,280.00 be allocated to the Drake Anime Club to cover costs associated with attending Anime Detour
2015.

MOTION SS [151015] – D; Anime Detour
To approve the recommendation made by the Student Fees Allocation Committee (SFAC), in accordance with the
Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate.
1.
Whereas, the mission of the Drake Anime Club is to introduce members of the Drake community to the art form
that is Japanese Animation, as well as to provide public showings for anime fans new and old;
2.
Whereas, it is the Anime Club’s goal to gather inspiration from Anime Detour for DeMoii, the anime convention
held on campus;
3.
Whereas, traveling to Detour grants the Drake Anime Club the opportunity to network and connect with
professionals who often contribute to improving DeMoii;
4.
Whereas, during last year’s Anime Detour, the Drake Anime Club recruited Rod Hutchinson, a professional at
organizing gaming events, who will be working in collaboration with the Drake Anime Club this year to host
gaming tournaments;
5.
Whereas, DeMoii attracted more than 500 people last year;
6.
Whereas, this year’s Anime Detour will be held from April 22nd-24th in Bloomington, MN;
7.
Whereas, 16 members of the Drake Anime Club will be attending;
8.
Whereas, the allocations are consistent with the Drake University Student Life Handbook;
Now therefore, be it:
Moved. That, Drake University Student Senate allocates $1,280.00 to the Drake Anime Club to cover costs associated
with attending Anime Detour 2015.
We, the members of Drake University Student Senate, in an effort to support programming that improves student life, to
better the experience of Drake University students, and to provide a memorable experience to students, do hereby
move that $150.00 be allocated to the Drake Chess Club to cover costs associated with purchasing tournament quality
chess boards.

MOTION SS [151015] – E; Drake Chess Club
To approve the recommendation made by the Student Fees Allocation Committee (SFAC), in accordance with the
Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate.
1.
Whereas, the mission of the Drake Chess Club is to provide a fun and educational environment for new and
experienced chess players to learn and play the game of chess;
9.
Whereas, the Drake Chess Club will be sponsoring and hosting the State Championship for the Iowa State
Chess Association, which is a subset of the United States Chess Federation;
10. Whereas, hosting the tournament will be bringing free publicity to Drake as a hub for chess playing;
11. Whereas, approximately 70-100 people will be in attendance at the State Championship, which will be held on
April 2nd, 2016;
12. Whereas, in order to play chess at a tournament level, tournament quality chess boards are required;
13. Whereas, the new chess boards will be official property of Drake University and made available to all students for
usage;
14. Whereas, five tournament quality chess boards will be purchased;
15. Whereas, the allocations are consistent with the Drake University Student Life Handbook;
Now therefore, be it:
Moved. That, Drake University Student Senate allocates $150.00 to the Drake Chess Club to cover costs associated
with purchasing tournament quality chess boards.
We, the members of Drake University Student Senate, in an effort to support programming that improves student life, to
better the experience of Drake University students, and to provide a memorable experience to students, do hereby
move that $1,149.91 be allocated to the Student Leadership Advisory Panel to cover costs associated with the S.O.S.
Summit.

MOTION SS [151015] – F; S.O.S. Summit
To approve the recommendation made by the Student Fees Allocation Committee (SFAC), in accordance with the
Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate.
1.
Whereas, the mission of the Student Leadership Advisory Panel is to be the bridge between LEAD Faculty and
Students and promote the LEAD concentration on Drake's Campus and within Des Moines;
2.
Whereas, we need to strengthen and unify the vision around college campuses as we work to address the issues
of sexual assault, LGBTQ inclusion, race relations, and mental health;
3.
Whereas, the goal of the S.O.S. Summit is to build a shared vision within the Iowan collegiate community that
addresses and creates solutions for hot-button social issues to result in safer communities;
4.
Whereas, students from multiple universities around Iowa will be in attendance;
5.
Whereas, the S.O.S. Summit will take place on December 5th, 2015;
6.
Whereas, the S.O.S. Summit will be open to all Drake students;
7.
Whereas, the allocations are consistent with the Drake University Student Life Handbook;
Now therefore, be it:
Moved. That, Drake University Student Senate allocates $1,149.91 to the Student Leadership Advisory Panel to cover
costs associated with the S.O.S. Summit.
