Scottish Rugby Job Description Job Title: Game On Community Coach Team: Glasgow Warriors Reports to: Game On Project Development Officer Location: Scotstoun, Glasgow Work Pattern: Full-time Date JD Completed: September 2014 Fixed Term 6 months (potentially 9 months) Job Purpose: Working closely with the ‘Game On’ Project Development Officer to ensure the successful delivery, monitoring and evaluation of the ‘Game On’ project within Glasgow Warriors. Lead the delivery of the ‘Game On’ rugby content including regular sessions with identified participants aged 16-19. Plan, coordinate and deliver a series of events and player appearances throughout the Glasgow Warriors region to increase the profile of Glasgow Warriors whilst also contributing to the Scottish Rugby targets of growing the game. Key Accountabilities: 1. Support the planning, roll out and delivery of the Wooden Spoon ‘Game On’ project to achieve stated aims and objectives by: Plan, coordinate and lead delivery of rugby-based inclusion sessions across specified project area to engage with a specified number of young people from priority groups in the community. Deliver a quality, progressive programme which encourages repeat attendance from targeted young people. Adapt the ‘Game On’ rugby programme content to ensure participants receive training/experience required to secure positive progressions Work with the ‘Game On’ Project Development Officer to identify and recruit suitable young people who fulfill the participant criteria (NEETS aged 16-19). Support the monitoring & evaluation of the project through data gathering, KPI monitoring, case studies and reporting. Organise player appearances for various sessions. Engage with different referral agencies to ensure sufficient numbers of young people participate in the programme. Engage with suitable organisations which can provide employability training to Game On participants ensuring a comprehensive programme e.g. money skills, cv writing, interview skills. 2. Support the planning, organisation and delivery of Glasgow Warriors Match Day Activity. Organise and deliver a comprehensive match day programme of activity for clubs and schools including pre match fixtures / tournaments, guard of honour and half time rugby activity. Work with Scottish Rugby staff to link other programmes to Glasgow Warriors match days such as Coach Education, School of Rugby and Performance Programmes. Support the planning and delivery of Glasgow Warriors events and player appearance programme to promote the brand of Glasgow Warriors whilst assisting with the Scottish rugby strategic targets for growing the game. Plan, coordinate and deliver Glasgow Warriors player visits/events to support the ‘Game On’ programme, CashBack Referral groups and Schools of Rugby. Plan, coordinate and deliver Glasgow Warriors holiday camps and festivals within the Glasgow Warriors region. Support Glasgow Warriors staff with the organisation, promotion and delivery of high quality player appearances through Blitz events, school visits, club visits, coach’s evenings etc. to inspire the rugby community and increase match attendance at Glasgow Warriors matches. Where appropriate support & deliver development programmes in local clubs and schools (Regional Festivals/Events, AYRTPR, KNT, LTPD) 4. Support other Glasgow Warriors programmes designed to promote the professional teams, increase rugby participation and match attendance. 5. Deliver and coordinate 4 Glasgow Warriors’ “Train Like a Warrior” training days to external partners; organising venues/facilities/schedules/session plans/player appearances 6. Lead the Glasgow Warriors Rugby Camp Programme (1 camp in summer and 1 camp in Easter): Provide camp info to Marketing and Media teams to enable creation of materials and promotion of camps. Manage a team of Glasgow Warriors Casual Coaches & align to each camp (22 contracted coaches) Organise dates, times, venues, coaches, accommodation, travel, expenses, kit, food, schedules, content & player appearances for 2 Glasgow Warriors Rugby Camps Manage & coordinate the delivery of each camp (P1-U18 ages covered – Young Warriors / Train like a Warrior) Collate bookings, and create camp schedules / session plans / feedback forms for each camp Promote camps via clubs, schools and development officer network. Working Environment: Working out in the community supporting the delivery of projects in and around Glasgow. Travel across Scotland will be required occasionally with occasional overnight stays for events in the most remote parts of Scotland e.g. Western Isles. Physical aspects of role: Requirement to undertake rugby training sessions and demonstrate rugby skills and physical competencies.
