She passed around a thank you note from the hospitality team thanking the PTO for the nice Valentine’s Day Lunch. She passed out the agenda and the slate for next year. Minutes Beth made the motion to approve the minutes from March, and Nancy seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Principal’s report- Mr. Wise Mrs. Lawing is not here today; she is at a workshop on Co-teaching. Co-teaching is when an EC teacher and regular teacher are working and teaching together, sharing instruction at the same time. We will have 4 classes teaching with EC next year. Two in fifth grade and two in sixth. Looking at the calendar o May 10 NBMS - students will travel during the day for a tour, and that night parents will have a meeting at 5:30. o If you look at the Buncombe County School website, we will follow the Version 1 calendar for next year. That means we will start school on August 29. We will have no fall break, Christmas Break is shorter, we do get a full week at Spring Break and should end school on June 10. o EOG Testing- This will affect some students and parents. For the students who fail the EOG (ELA, Math or Science) , we will be retesting the students we feel had a bad testing day. This will be probably fewer than 25 kids. The law says we have to test after the last day of school. There is no funding for that. o Read to Achieve-Kids get 720 days of school between the first day of kindergarten and last day of 3rd grade to become proficient in reading. Success is really high. o Inflatable party for June 6. The Incredible Inflatables will arrive about 6 a.m. and will meet Jackie at the front of the school. o End of Year Awards- 5th grade-June 8 at 8:00. 6th grade- June 8 at 9:30. They will take place on their wings. Mr. Wise will be at one wing awards, and Mr. Beningno will be at the the other wing. Students can check out early on a check out sheet in the classroom. We hope they will last an hour, and we will have 30 minutes for traffic to clear out in between the two. o June 9- Faculty end of year breakfast at 8:00 o o o o June 7- voting here again. June 7 -5th grade field day, West wing at 8:30 and South at 12:15 June 3_ 6th grade field day, North wing 8:30 and East at 12:15 June 6 PBis inflatable party. We have about 12-15 volunteers that day, (title 1 and exploratory specialist) Karen will check with company about how many volunteers each station needs. TS orthodontics will be handing out popsicles, and snow cones are included in inflatable party. o We have testing at day 170, which starts on May 25.Mr. Wise feels we are prepared for EOGs. Treasurer- Tammy Financials were sent out. They show about $51,000. $25,000 of this is funds for the school that we hold for them (club funds, field trip money) Our operating amount is about $25,000. Volleyball game- We didn’t have the turn out we had 2 years ago. Our net profit was $102.00. o Problems?? Date, being right after spring break, being a Tuesday and not a Thursday. We need to look at getting more donations for snacks and food, limit items we sell as well. o The good part was the community, students, staff. Everyone loved it and had a great time!! o Maybe a basketball game next year, in house, in the fall. o We did have a pep rally at NWR, and kids loved it! o NBMS did have one team member who was not a faculty member. Tammy needs a volunteer for budget this year. Nancy volunteered for this. The budget committee will be Tammy, Nancy, Mr. Wise and Heather. Tammy will ask Jen Johnson and Allyson about doing it also since Jen will be co treasurer and Allyson will be VP. 6th grade Dance- We made $879! This doesn’t include the cost of the printer or paper for the photo booth. The dance was fun and profitable. The kids had a great time. We may think about doing a fall dance for the new 5th Graders. o We used the money to go toward the 6th grade field trip scholarships. Any unused money will go to next year’s field trips. For future dances, PTO will keep a portion and then with each dance we will decide what to do with that money the PTO doesn’t keep. Box Tops- Anita March 1 was the last day to turn in money to Box Tops for the April check. Our current contest ends April 15. Fundraising- Beth April 28 Barnes and Noble Book Fair. We will have some student musicians and hopefully some teachers. The last time we made about $400. Next year ideas for fundraising: movie nights, in-house basketball game, dance, kiss the pig (which could be at a pep rally before the basketball game) Boosterthon for next year- color run, next spring. There are 3 categories or levels to choose from, 1- we do all of the work, 2- they do the heavy lifting, 3- they do everything. Beth and Nancy will pick a date and pick a level. Volunteer Coordinator- Cindy Tomorrow is career day, and everything is covered. EOG proctors- we will need abut 30 per day, mornings only about 8:00-11 or 12. On the science day we will need 20-25 proctors. Cindy Bell will ask Cindy in the office about helping with this. Hospitality- Jenny Teacher appreciation week is May 2-6. Jenny is meeting Tammy next week to plan teacher appreciation week. Mr. Benigno will cover one day so we will have 4 days to do something special for the teachers. Jenny asked how much we spent on the breakfast last year. Tammy will find out how much we spent last year. Jenny may need help picking up food the morning of the breakfast. President- Heather Looking at next year. o Megan Mays may do hospitality with Laura Chase. o Teacher representative - Tonya Lawing will be the 6th grade teacher rep. This is her planning time. For the 5th grade, none of them have planning at 8:00. They would have to get someone to watch their class. They may rotate teachers from 5th grade for PTO meetings. Mr. Wise, we will be accredited next year. There will be a lot of paperwork and time that goes into this. We will email out a parent survey after April 25. We will need reps to be on the accreditation committee that will be available to go through the process and rating. They will be meeting with a team. We will put this on the May agenda. Heather- Next meeting is May 12. We will vote on next year’s slate and vote to approve the budget. We will also invite new parents and new PTO members to the next meeting. Heather also said, if anyone is interested in being President next year, she would be happy to hand it over to them. Also, May 12 is the Keller Williams day. Mr. Wise - we are thinking of Trevor Bowman’s family this week and mourn the loss of him. Heather- we may change the week of each month meeting are held for next year. We will discuss at the next meeting.
