STOP CUTS TO SERVICE
Thousands of working poor families will lose access to work, school, and
medical care if WMATA continues its plans to cut or eliminate these bus lines
in DC, MD & VA.
AFFORDABLE FARES
The people who rely on Metro most will be hardest hit by WMATA’s plan to
raise fares on rail and bus. It is already one of the most expensive systems in
the country.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING and the ENVIRONMENT
We demand affordable housing on all WMATA land deals so that seniors and
people who work in our county can afford to live here. Reducing commutes
is one of the most effective ways to address climate change and fossil fuel
dependency.
GOOD JOBS
10,000 good middle class jobs are at stake! WMATA’s plan calls for
privatizing these jobs. Recent WMATA history shows us that privatizing
leads to near-poverty wages and no secure retirement for a workforce that
is predominantly people of color. Also, we can demand that WMATA take
steps to improve hiring of our youth, returning citizens, and unemployed
people.
