4. APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Please answer the following questions as honestly as possible. All responses will be kept
confidential. Through your responses, we hope to get as full a picture of you as we can. Feel
free to add whatever you believe will be helpful to us. Answers to these questions do not
automatically include or exclude an applicant from the Training. This information allows us
to relate to you more personally during the interview process, and to shape the training to
the nature of the members of the group.
Please TYPE your responses to the following questions. Altogether, your the answers need
be no longer than three typed pages.
1. HAKOMI EXPERIENCE: You are applying to an intensive, professionally-oriented
Training that will require significant personal, intellectual, energetic and financial resources.
We want to hear from you about how you view Hakomi and why this seems like the right
next step for you. If you have already had previous experience with Hakomi (workshops,
therapy, readings, classes at school, etc.), please 1) describe your experiences; 2) what
draws you to study further; and 3) how does Hakomi fit with your career plans and life
goals; what is your particular plan or vision for applying the Hakomi Method? If you have
not had previous exposure, please describe 1) what is it about this training that draws you
and 2) how are you envisioning applying Hakomi to your career and professional life?
2. WORK WITH OTHERS: As a method of therapy, Hakomi requires practitioners to have
well-developed people skills and rapport. Whatever kind of work you have done, please
describe your significant professional experiences working one-on-one or in groups with
clients, customers, team members, etc. Be specific about the kinds of work or practice, and
the types of clientele. For all of these, what impact have these experiences (both successful
and challenging) had on your ability to work effectively with others?
3. PERSONAL GROWTH: Because of the intensive and intimate nature of the Training,
emotional and intellectual maturity are highly valued qualities among the students we
accept. Although we know that personal development is a lifelong process, and that the
Training itself will provide many learning opportunities, we nevertheless expect students to
have already engaged in extensive personal growth processes.
a. Tell us about the significant personal growth experiences in your life as well as a
participant in such things as psychotherapy, bodywork, movement therapy,
spiritual practice, workshops etc. Include both factual details (when, how long,
what kinds of therapy etc.), and the personal impact this work has had or is
having on you.
b. If you are currently working with a therapist, briefly describe the issues you are
dealing with, your goals, and how you see your progress developing over time.
c. Have you been a client of a Hakomi therapist? If so, how has that affected your
desire to take the training?
4. FINANCIAL RESOURCES: The training requires a considerable investment of financial
resources. Participants must demonstrate a history of consistently supporting themselves
financially. Please state specifically how you plan to meet the financial obligations of this
training. Please also state whether you will pay in full before the training, or will propose a
payment plan.

5. ATTENDANCE: The Training is created by the collective contributions of everyone
involved. As such, we value highly each member’s full participation, and expect all students
to be punctual and to attend all dates of the training with a sense of prioritized
commitment. At the same time, we know that many people’s lives are full and complicated,
with family, work and/or school obligations arising. With all this in mind, will you be able to
attend all the training dates and if not, which dates and times will you be absent? Be aware
that a minimum of 80% attendance (22.5 out of 28 days) in each year of the training is
required to receive a certificate of completion at the end of the second year.
6. PERSONAL DESCRIPTION: Please describe the kind of person you are. Please include
what you consider to be a few of your strengths as well as some challenges that you
struggle with. What positive and critical feedback have others offered you?
7. PERSONAL EDGES: Because we care about and respond to both the individual needs of
our students and the overall comfort and safety of the group, we would like to know
something about the harder edges you may have negotiated in your life. We fully
understand that life is often filled with difficulties, and that deep learning and development
can come from managing such situations. None of the responses to the following questions
are in and of themselves reasons for us to accept or not accept a student. Please answer
honestly. knowing your replies are confidential, and that we are as much impressed by
honesty and perspective as we are by circumstances.
• Are you currently taking any medications or substances for emotional or
psychological reasons? If so, briefly describe.
• Have you ever considered or been drawn to hurting yourself or someone
else physically? If so, please describe.
• Have you ever been convicted of a crime? Are you now or have you ever
been engaged in any lawsuits? If so, please describe.
8. EMOTIONAL MATURITY: Due to the intensive psychological nature of this training, we
seek students who are emotionally stable, who have the ability to handle emotionally
challenging situations in mature ways, and who are able to take responsibility for their
actions. Given this, please respond to the following (again we are more interested in your
genuine tendencies rather than your trying to convince us of your imminent sainthood):
What sort of situations, with yourself or with others, tend to activate you? How do you tend
to act and process your emotions when you get upset, angry, disappointed, or triggered?
9. BEING IN GROUPS: The formation and the ongoing influence of the group that forms in
the Training is a central aspect of the learning experience. Tell us about the way you tend to
participate in groups. Include topics like leadership, extroversion/introversion, how you
prefer others to be, difficulties you typically experience, how you respond to interpersonal
conflict, etc. And, do you imagine others who have been in groups with you would say these
same things about you?
10. HEALTH ISSUES: The training can be physically and emotionally demanding. Do you
have any health issues that require special attention or may affect or interfere with your
ability to participate in the training?
11. ANYTHING ELSE: Is there anything else you care to mention or want us to know?
