Dear Parents and Caregivers
Greenmeadows School is pleased to be able to offer Basketball, Soccer and Barefoot 10’s Rugby as after school team sports for boys
and girls during Term 3. For children who would like to play any of the above, please return the attached registration/permission
form fully completed to the sports box at the school office by TUESDAY 27TH JUNE. Fees will be invoiced on children’s accounts.
Our preferred method of payment is via internet banking, account number 12-3144-0207207-01.
Children may register to play more than one sport during Term 3. They must be available and committed to their games as well as
any practice sessions during/after school. As always, assistance is sought for the coaching/managing of teams. Without parental
support in these roles we cannot enter teams into the various competitions. Please complete the permission slip accordingly if you
are able to help in some way – no previous experience is necessary, it is your time and enthusiasm that enables our children to
play. We welcome and thank both returning coaches and those parents volunteering for the first time.
ALL YEAR 3-6 SATURDAY HOCKEY TEAMS will continue playing into Term 3 until 26th August. Children who are able to make the
time commitment are welcome to participate in additional sports during Term 3, as well as their current hockey team.
NETBALL does not continue into Term 3 this year.
MINI BASKETBALL – Boys and Girls Years 0-6
WHEN:
Thursdays after school, Pettigrew Green Arena, from 27 July – 28th September.
WHAT:
Designed for children to experience basketball competition at a level appropriate for their age, in graded divisions
of Yr 1&2, Yr 3&4 and Yr 5&6. Games are fast and exciting, with smaller courts, lowered hoops and modified rules
that ensure all players are involved, having fun, and developing their skills. New and existing players welcome –
this is a popular indoor sport for the winter terms.
FEES:
$25 per child (Note: these fees are heavily subsided by the school – please ensure your fees are paid promptly
to assist us with this cost. Players with outstanding fees will not be eligible for Term 3 teams).
UNIFORM:
GMS school sports shirt (issued by the school), players own navy/dark blue shorts, ankle sports socks and
appropriate non-marking court/sports shoes for indoor surface.
COACHING:
Support required for all teams, new and existing coaches and managers welcome. No umpiring required, as this
is all done by representatives from the Basketball Association. Acting as a basketball coach/manager is easy and
fun – and with only small numbers of children per team, all parents are encouraged to indicate their support on
reg forms where at all possible. Any training, rules and resources needed are supplied by the school.
BAREFOOT 10’S RUGBY – Boys and Girls Years 3-6
WHEN:
Wednesdays after school, local school venues, from 2nd August – 27th September
WHAT:
Tackle rugby that anyone can play, with separate grades for Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 teams. Games are fast,
physical, and lots of fun, and include tackling, lineouts and modified scrums. Points are scored by tries only; there
are no kicks at goal. New and experienced players welcome, this is a fantastic way for any keen children to get
involved with playing rugby. Please note: The Yr 3/4 grade can only go ahead if we have enough interest from
players and other schools. Let’s make it happen! Register your name to play so that we have the numbers – a
couple GMS teams would be great!!
FEES:
FREE for all players in 2017
UNIFORM:
Players supply own navy shorts and mouthguards (compulsory), school supplies rugby jerseys. All games are
played barefoot. Headgear optional.
COACHING:
Support required for all teams, new and existing coaches and managers welcome. Training, rules and resources
supplied by the school, please indicate your availability to help on registration forms.
SOCCER – Boys and Girls Years 3-6
WHEN:
Thursdays after school, Year 3/4 play at Richmond School, Year 5/6 play at Park Island, from 3rd Aug – 28th Sept.
WHAT:
Modified soccer games that are fast and fun and ensure maximum participation from all players. Year 3/4 teams
play 7 aside, Year 5/6 teams play 9 aside.
FEES:
FREE for all players in 2016
UNIFORM:
GMS sports shirt (supplied by the school), and players own navy/dark blue shorts and navy knee length sports
socks. Year 5/6 players wear their own soccer boots and shin pads, Year 3/4 players wear their own sports shoes
(boots not worn in this grade, and shin pads optional).
COACHING:
Support required for all teams, new and existing coaches and managers welcome. Training, rules and resources
supplied by the school, please indicate your availability to help on registration forms.
To register for one of the above sports please complete and return the attached permission slip to the school office Sports Box by
TUESDAY 27TH JUNE. LATE REGISTRATIONS CANNOT BE GUARANTEED PLACEMENT IN A TEAM.
