Kapunda Team Win Edgar Zander Legacy Shield by Peter Herriman Event organizers Tim Knight and Bistro Cheney rate this year has been the best Legacy Day and JAK Weekend ever, a most fitting way for Eudunda to celebrate 90 years of Golf. Eudunda Golf Club Secretary Tim Knight, “The weekend had everything; an almost summer’s day on the Saturday during the Legacy Golf Day allowing all the players to make their way around the course freely, taking in the beautiful scenery, and really enjoy the day”. A minutes silence at the start of the day and tree plantings for some members to remember those who have passed were the solemn side of the day. The Legacy Day Ambrose is earmarked as the fun day of the JAK Golfing weekend with the biggest entry on record with over 60 players from far and wide in attendance. Teams from Melbourne, Broome, Adelaide and the local district competed and the eventual winners were xpat Mark Pettigrew’s Team from Kapunda with a very tidy 8 under the card, closely followed by the boys from Marrabel with 7 under winning on a count back from the Matthews boys team from the Westwood Ho Golf Club. “The Planting of the trees for loved ones on the 'Memorial Way' was very emotional for all those involved including myself. This year Preston Eva planted a tree for his wife Sandy who volunteered for the club and Melbourne girls Ilyna, Calani, and Jiordia Knight planted a tree for their dad David Knight on the memorial way. "It was fun to participate in the Bundy Hole raising a toast to Edgar and the reuniting of friends was most rewarding. Bistro puts a lot of effort and time into running the Bundy Hole at the 7th, which is a novelty hit-off, in aid of Legacy. This year was the most pleasant day he has had there since he has been doing it”. The shots of the day at the Bundy Hole were by Darryl Holmes with his air born shot straight up and Heather Knight after her Bundy did a miraculous shot hitting a stump then straight up and then running forward to be in a range for her next shot. The Eudunda Golf Club as did legatee Andrew Partington from Legacy thank Bistro for his great contribution and has offered to assist him in his role next year. Thank you Bistro from all of us. “The Bundy Hole is a place for fun and yet a place to remember and it was a touching to have players raise a glass to our dear friend Edgar Zander and remember him on the day for his work with Legacy and support of this event. It is truly fun to watch and listen as players attempt to hit the ball off their upturned cup while using a driver and wearing a World War II helmet; which does not have lining in it making it very loose. Thank you to Matt Twartz for the shelter and heater, Geoff Hansen for the loan of the helmet, to Fay for helping and to Bundy Rum for the point of sale items to brighten up the 7th hole.” said Bistro. “The JAK Golfing Weekend embraced the opportunity to have the oldest and the youngest players to enjoy the facilities. Florence Knight at 94 can still remember playing the course 70 years ago and her Great Grandson Caleb Maynard at 6 years old played in his Uncle Tim’s Team on Legacy Day giving us the platform to cement every success for the future.” Tim continued. The course was without a doubt in the best condition ever and this can be mainly attributed to our President and Club Champion Roy Fiegert who had put many hours leading up to the event and then a whole week before the event to get everything in tip top condition. Joy Fiegert took on a new roll, managing the kitchen, and with some very generous helpers provided some very nice meals, as did generous donations from John Mosey of sheep and Des Pfeiffer in cooking on the BBQ and auctioneering later on.
