term contract. The intention of this letter is to provide you with a summary of the

At the consultation meeting, the following areas were covered:

Explanation of the consultation process including the duration of consultation and
the arrangement for further formal meetings to be arranged if required. You were
informed that during the process you will have informal meetings and/or updates
from your manager and HR.

Reflection about the current situation during which you were reminded of the
reason your fixed term contract will be coming to an end and that unless further
funding or alternative work can be found for you, your employment with the
University will end on the date specified above.

Acknowledgement of the personal impact and potential options for continued
employment within your School/Budget Centre including any possibilities for
renewed funding or alternative work within the School/Budget Centre and any
future opportunities that may arise.


In relation to the discussion regarding support available to you, I drew your
attention to People and Organisational Development (POD) who run a variety of
courses tailored for specific staff groups. In particular, I let you know about the CV
Writing and Interview Skills course run by POD, which you may find helpful. For a full

We understand that this can be an unsettling time and I informed you about the
confidential Employee Advice and Listening Services within Wellbeing Services.

We discussed the next steps of the process and assured you that possibilities for
additional funding will continue to be explored and that we will continue to provide
you with updates in this regard throughout your consultation period. A second
consultation meeting was offered to you as an opportunity to further discuss and
share potential updates regarding the situation.
[ACADEMIC STAFF ONLY] As an Academic member of staff, you were also offered
the opportunity to meet with your Head of School to discuss the end of your fixed
term contract.

Finally, you were provided with the opportunity to raise any questions or areas of
concern that you would like to discuss further.
The following outcomes from the meeting were identified:

consultation meeting has been arranged and whether, for Academics, a meeting with the
HOS has been requested in cases where they do not wish to attend a 2nd consultation
meeting.
If so, confirm dates of meeting and right to be accompanied.

If not, then confirm that unless situation changes further that contract will end as per above
date and that Notice letter will be issued by HR in due course at close of consultation.
Explain that further meetings can be held, if requested.

Please be assured that your School/Budget Centre will keep you informed about any
opportunities there may be to extend your employment. You are also encouraged to
explore vacancies on the Redeployment Website. However, you should be aware that if no
further funding or “suitable” alternative employment becomes available then your contract
will end on (DATE).
