Deputy Care Manager
Responsible to:
Registered Care Manager

22 - 25
Description of Role
Under the direction of the Registered Care Manager, the Deputy will assume
responsibility for the co-ordination of the team and assume full responsibility for
the service in the absence of Manager.
a)
To provide a customised, responsive and high quality service to people
with multiple sensory impairments and/or learning disabilities, living within
Sense's residential care homes.
b)
To empower deafblind people to live as independently as possible with
appropriate levels of support.
Specific Responsibilities
1.
Key Responsibilities
1.1
To co-ordinate the team to ensure that all shared responsibilities are
fulfilled and systems maintained.
1.2
To co-ordinate and monitor individual’s development and leisure
opportunities .
1.3
To assume responsibility for co-ordinating and leading core teams.
1.4
To establish, maintain and monitor financial, recording and staff
communication systems
1.5
To ensure that rotas and staffing ratios are maintained, and that all
planned activities are completed.
1.6
To act as a role model to staff and deafblind people.
1.7
To participate in recruitment and staff induction.
1.8
To promote the personal development of team members. To facilitate
supervisions and annual appraisals. To identify training needs for
individuals and teams ensuring those needs are fully met via a career
development plan.
1.9
To promote staff development through the use of internal support systems
i.e. Practice Development Workers, NVQ Team, Finance Team and the
Human Resources Team to maximise deafblind peoples lives.
1.10
To liaise with families and other professionals, including inspectors, as
representative of the registered manager and the organisation
1.11
To participate in on-call responsibilities.

Shared Responsibilities
2.1
To deliver and monitor Sense’s QA system and promote its use amongst
the team.
2.2
To deliver and monitor Sense’s QA system and promote its use amongst

To work across the rota to meet the needs of the individuals and the
service we provide.
2.4
To implement the 3 principles of the Sense Service Model – Person
Centred Planning (PCP), Lifestyle and Specialist Approach.

To provide practical support, including intimate personal care where
appropriate.
2.6
To actively participate in meetings and to generate new ideas regarding
the running of the home,the department, the individual deafblind persons
service and the organisation.

To be committed to your own career development and enhance your
service in accordance with knowledge gained.
2.8
To actively promote the awareness and practice of an Equal Opportunity

To ensure that all service user's personal property and Sense's resources
are respected and appropriately used.

aims and objectives in line with the operational plan.

To carry out any other duties consistent with the grade of the post

Willingness and ability to work towards an
NVQ level 3 qualification
Ability to work within a total communication
environment
Basic Literacy & Numeracy Skills
NVQ Care Level 3 or
Professional Qualification
Able to Communicate BSL to at least
Stage I level
To have an understanding of different
communication needs when supporting
people

A full UK driving licence and use of your
own vehicle is an essential requirement for
this role.
