Congratulations on being accepted to
Thunderbird!
home of Thor the
Allow me to introduce myself, I am Professor Brown, but you may refer to me as Mr. Brown. This year
for 5th grade you will be participating in the Diploma Program as a Southern Utah University
Thunderbird! At EDUPRIZE, each classroom is represented by a college or university. You will have the
opportunity to earn various degrees as we work together throughout the school year. To start off, you
will want to do some research about our college. When was it founded? What are some of the
academic degrees and programs offered there? How did Thor the Thunderbird become the mascot?
Where in Utah is the campus located? Who founded the college? Is there anything unique about it? Can
you find it on Google Earth? Please bring your research to class with you the first day to share.
A little about myself…I am a native Arizonan and Mesan, which means I was born, raised, and reside
here in the sunny state of Arizona. As a teacher, I have spent 9 years in intermediate grades loving all
of the subjects and learning alongside my students. In my family there’s my wife and our four
daughters. During my downtime I enjoy reading fantasy books, especially when it’s a series! A few of
my favorites have been Harry Potter, The Inheritance Cycle (tetralogy), and The Giver Quartet. When
being active, I delight in running, bowling, or playing a rousing game of racquetball! Finally, I find
enjoyment in going to the movies, especially when there is a new Marvel movie or other action-packed
superhero or fantasy movie. I look forward to hearing and learning more about you as well!
I’m eager to personally meet you all at our Open House, which will take place on Monday, July 24th
from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The designated time for our class is 9:30 a.m. Please note, I will be taking a
lunch break should you choose to come at a later time. Our room will be Room 78 in Building 2. If you
are unable to make it on this day, please contact me and we can schedule a different day to meet.
While there, you will be able to bring your supplies, setup your desk, look around, ask questions, and
see friends. You will also receive important information like where to line up outside the first day and
carpool information. Below is a list of Suggested and Optional supplies. Lastly, please bring $10 for
both the planner and Scholastic News magazine. It will need to be cash or a check (made out to
EDUPRIZE).
The first day of school will be July 26th, and students need to be on time and present the FULL day to
be considered enrolled at EDUPRIZE. We are in Village 1. Our days will begin at 7:50 a.m. and end at
2:50 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Fridays will be from 7:50 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Parents, please check
the school website frequently (www.eduprizeschools.net) for any changes in schedules. The website
will have forms to be printed, filled out, and returned at Open House.
For Science we will continue using the cottages to provide awesome hands-on learning experiences to
facilitate the Arizona Science Standards being taught. This year we have: Body Shop, Physics Foundry,
Invention Convention, and Planetarium for Quarters 1-4 respectively.
I can’t wait to start our year together! BRING THE THUNDER!!!
