BASKETBALL AND VOLLEY BALL COURT
When the CLS playing field was
completed in 2014, a basketball court
was provided at one end. This was
open to the weather and the
relentless sun – an exposed and hot
environment.
In 2015 an Australian donor provided US$20,000 to construct an enclosure over
the court. This would provide a large covered area suitable for basketball, volley
ball and class games, and as a sheltered space for school assemblies and events.
Deep foundations were laid, tall
pillars were constructed, and a
steel framework was fixed in place
to support the roof and sides.
Cladding for the roof and sides
completed the structure.
The covered area is an
outstanding addition to
the CLS buildings. It is
used regularly for volley
ball, basketball and a
variety of class games.
It is also an ideal space for
school assemblies and other
events such as Reading Days
and scholarship presentations.
It allows such events to go
ahead without concern about
downpours in the wet season,
and without participants being
“baked” by the blistering sun in
the dry season.
