The Month of Independent Movies STAN ROBINSON’S MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIES It’s the 4th of July and independence, so too are the movies! My short list includes genetically evolved apes led by Caesar in ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’; ‘Earth to Echo’ has kids embarking on an adventure with an alien; in ‘Jupiter Ascending’ In the future, a young destitute human woman gets targeted for assassination; and ‘Step Up: All In’ has allstars in Las Vegas, battling for a victory. Here is a look at my ‘Most Anticipated’ movies for July 2014! Hercules With my favorite of Greek and Roman mythology, Hercules the Greek demigod, having endured his legendary twelve labors, has his life as a sword-for-hire tested when the King of Thrace and his daughter seek his aid in defeating a tyrannical warlord. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Irina Shayk, John Hurt, Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, Ian Whyte, and Rufus Sewell. Lucy In a film by my favorite contemporary producer/writer/director Luc Besson, a woman, accidentally caught in a dark deal, turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Analeigh Tipton, Morgan Freeman, Pilou Asbæk, Min-sik Choi, Amr Waked, Mason Lee, and Frédéric Chau. Planes: Fire & Rescue In this animated family adventure, when worldfamous air racer Dusty learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Featuring the voices of Julie Bowen, Corri English, Ed Harris, Dane Cook, Regina King, Stacy Keach, Wes Studi, Jerry Stiller, John Michael Higgins, Kari Wahlgren, Fred Willard, Anne Meara, and Erik Estrada. The Purge: Anarchy This next installment based on the rather sick theme of ‘The Purge’ (2013): Because of our human nature, for one day a year there’s the ‘Purge’, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalized, continues when a young couple tries to survive after their car breaks down right as the annual purge starts. Starring Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez, Zoë Soul, Carmen Ejogo, and Cortney Palm. Stan Robinson is retired with over 20 years of film & television production experience and currently a Film Columnist with AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine in Phoenix & Tucson, AZ. To loosen it up, place the jar in a bowl of hot water for about five to ten minutes. Stir until it is smooth and more liquid. To keep crystals from developing, store honey in a cool and dry place. Do not place it in the refrigerator and keep moisture out of the jar. While it is always a good idea to have an emergency fund, keeping money in a savings account while you have debt on a credit card doesn’t make financial sense. Regular saving accounts earn very little interest, while the interest rates on credit cards average 13 percent. Using your saving account to eliminate debt means that your money is working harder for you. You’ll save a substantial amount on interest and will be closer to wiping out your debt completely. Just be sure to leave enough in saving to cover basic emergencies. Makeup that is kept too long can be a breeding ground for bacteria, which can lead to skin or eye infections. Use a permanent marker to label each item with the purchase date. Lipstick, eye pencils, powder, and concealer should be thrown out after a year. Cleanser, moisturizer, and liquid foundation is only good for about six months, while mascara and eye shadow should not be kept past three months. The most important thing you can do when exercising during the summer is stay properly hydrated. During hot weather, your body can lose up to one quart of water an hour. You should drink before, during, and after exercise. Your body can only absorb eight ounces of cold water every twenty minutes, so even if you do not feel thirsty, you should continue to drink after your exercise session. Sports drinks are no more effective than regular water at rehydrating you, so stick to water to get the best benefit. In July History 1776 1863 The Declaration of Independence was approved and signed. The Battle of Gettysburg ended after three days of fighting with the defeat of forces led by Confederate General Robert E. Lee. 1909 Louis Bleriot flew the world’s first international overseas airplane flight when he took off from Les Baraques, France, and landed on English soil at Northfall Meadow, near Dover, England. 1954 Elvis Presley’s first single, “That’s All Right (Mama)” was released by Sun Records. 1976 Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci scored the first “10” in Olympic history with her performance on the uneven bars. 1990 President Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act requiring that public facilities be made accessible to the disabled.
