Global Goals Cycle Round Ireland Awareness Raising Event 2017 ABOUT THE 17 GLOBAL GOALS: In September 2015, 193 world leaders agreed, on behalf of their countries, to sign up to the U.N. GLOBAL GOALS for SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (SDG’s). This process was co-facilitated by the Irish & Kenyan Ambassadors to the U.N. If these 17 goals are successfully completed by 2030 it will mean an end to extreme poverty and inequality within and among countries and possibly the saving of our beautiful planet. Our governments have agreed to the plan to save earth and humanity…… and now it is our job to make sure they stick to the plan or even improve upon it. The Global Goals are only going to work if we all know about them, discuss them and fight for their implementation. The Global Goals are for governments, business people, trade unions, voluntary workers, traditional and social media & all categories of people around our planet and that includes children! Every government and every person has a role to play. The GLOBAL GOALS CYCLE ROUND IRELAND: This is an unsupported solo cycle attempt by Maurice Hurley (volunteer coordinator of Global Citizenship School and a former teacher) to cycle approx. 100km/day to cover the 2,200km+ coast of Ireland in 22 days from 30th May to 20th June 2017. The plan is to call to 17 primary schools on-route & partake in awareness raising assemblies & hopefully tap in to local news & media in the process. Please contact Maurice @ 087-0564741 or [email protected] if you wish to discuss Maurice dropping by your school or helping with media contacts etc. (This is not a charity event but support will be appreciated & other cyclists are most welcome to join any stage of this awareness raising journey.) PROMOTION of the GLOBAL GOALS CYCLE ROUND IRELAND: The idea is to get as many individuals, classes and schools to follow the event via “Maurice’s BLOG” on www.schooltoschool.ie or via www.into.ie (Global), with daily FB posts on www.facebook.com/globalgoalscycleroundireland. Teachers might check posts of stunning photo’s, exciting video, insightful interviews or undertake an interesting end-of-year project. Hopefully local & national radio, tv & newspapers will also get on board. POSSIBLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY IDEAS: It will be up to each school to organise as suits local custom. A short Global Goals video may be show in advance of visit with a follow-up talk in a classroom, hall or yard. There could be pupil comments, readings, singing or dancing or some cycling around the yard or waving flags or whatever suits the school & the weather. WE WANT YOUR SUPPORT! We are looking for schools to follow the 3 week event on-lin and we also want local celebs or media contacts to help promote the Global Goals Cycle Round Ireland event as it passes your area. Please e.mail [email protected] or phone Maurice @ 0870564741 to discuss. We ordinary people can make the 17 Global Goals famous and this solo cycle round Ireland is part of a worldwide campaign to change the world and have fun in the process!
