ABOUT THE WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES
DID YOU KNOW?
The World University Games is the American term for “Universiade,” an international multi-sport event
organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Universiade
is staged every two years in a different city around the world, representing both winter and summer
competitions and is second only in importance to the Olympic Games.
Four Terrapins have competed in the World
University Games before. Tara Heiss (1979),
Lynetta Kizer (2011) and Brionna Jones
(2015) all won gold, and Katrina Colleton
(1993) took home a bronze medal.

The Westin Taipei is the official USA Team hotel. Athletes and staff will stay in the Athletes’ Village, but the remaining portion of the USA Team
Delegation will reside here. Half of the rooms are already reserved for the USA Team staff, friends and family. These packages are offered on
a first come, first served basis. The balance is due by May 10, 2017. Reservations will be paid online with a credit card. We will not match
roommates; you need to find your own match before signing up.
