North Lincolnshire School Sport Rules Tag Rugby Entry: Entry via SGO & Keith Robinson (SRUFC Schools Liaison Officer) Teams/Gender: Event Format: Basic Rules No contact – The only contact that is allowed is the removal of a tag from the belt of the ball carrier. Any other type of contact on the ball carrier, such as shirt pulling, running in front of or barging the ball carrier, forcing the ball carrier into touch, etc. must be penalised with a free pass and the players reminded of the rules. Gum shield advisable. No kicking of any kind When a tag is made, the tagger stops, holds the tag above their head and shouts “TAG!” When the ball-carrier is tagged, the ball must be passed to a team mate within three seconds Ball can only be passed backwards or sideways through the air, not handed to another player. The ball should be a size 4 Starting the Game • • The Tag • • • • • • Obstruction • NGB Website: Team of 7-a-side with a maximum squad of 10 A free pass is used to start the match at the beginning of each half. A similar free pass is also used to restart the game after a try has been scored, this pass is taken by the non-scoring team At a free pass, the opposition must be 7m back from the mark Tag belts are to be worn on the outside of shirts and not obscured in any way Tags are to be positioned on the hips, not the front or the back A ‘TAG’ is the removal of one of the two tags from the ball carriers belt. Only the ball carrier can be tagged When the ball carrier is tagged, they have to pass the ball to a team mate within 3 seconds Players, however, are only allowed one step to score a try after being tagged When a tag is made, the tagger must stop running, hold the tag above their head and shout ‘TAG’. Equipment Required: The size of rugby ball should be size 4.
