Groups or Individuals Looking for One-Time Volunteer Opportunities
At the Y, we are pleased to offer one-time opportunities for individuals or groups to do volunteer work
together. Whether you are an individual or a group of co-workers, friends or service club, we have
something for you! Please review the below list and let us know how you can help.
Special Events or Projects
SUMMER KICK-OFF EVENT
Volunteers are needed to help with serving food,
concessions, assist with field games, face
painting and clean-up. Minimum age to
volunteer is 16.
Where: Gary New Duluth Recreation Center │
801 101st Ave W
Date: Sunday June 11
Times: We have two shifts available (Shift #1 is
10:30am-1:15pm and Shift #2 is 1-3:30pm) or
you are welcome to volunteer for the entire
event 
Twin Ports Miracle League
The Miracle League is a program that provides
youth ages 4-19 with diverse abilities, an
opportunity to play baseball as a team member
in an organized league. We’re looking for groups
of volunteers to serve as buddies for the kids in
the program (Little Leagues, Girl Scouts,
Businesses, etc.) Buddies assist Miracle League
players so it could be anything from helping
them at bat, get from base to base or even just
cheering them on. Minimum age to volunteer is
8 (youth ages 8-12 must have an adult present).
Program Site: Miracle League Field (located in
Harrison Park in West Duluth)
Days & Times: We’re looking for groups to sign
u for one Saturday during the season. Our
season runs June 10-August 5 with no games
July 1. Games begin at 9:30am and 10:45am.
Volunteers can sign up to help with either or
both games (though both games would be great!)
Sidewalk Shuffle
On Wednesday July 12, the Y will be holding its
annual Sidewalk Shuffle 5K run/walk to raise
money for our Annual Campaign which raises
funds for YMCA youth serving programs. We’re
looking for volunteers to hand out water, track
time, serve refreshments and cheer our racers
on!
1. Packet Pick-Up:
• Date: Tuesday July 11 from 3:00-8:00pm
2. 5k Race:
• Date: Wednesday July 12
• Times: Volunteer shifts are available between
10:45am-1:30pm
Where? The race takes place on the Lakewalk
and the start and finish line is located at the
Endion Station.
Who can volunteer? Really anyone! This is a
great event for youth groups or families to do
together.
Woodland Community Center BBQ
Volunteers are needed to help with set-up,
serving food, running activity stations and cleanup. BBQ dinner included for all volunteers J
Minimum age to volt is 13.
When: Tuesday August 29
Time: 4:30-7:15pm
Where: Woodland Community Center
YMCA Programs
PARENT’S NIGHT OUT
PNO is a program where parents can drop their
kids off at the Y and we provide an evening of
activities, dinner, games, swimming and movies
while the parents get the night to themselves.
PNO is open to kids ages 4 months -12 years.
Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, takedown, swimming, activities such as reading
stories, puzzles, craft projects and playing with
kids. We can take a max of 8 volunteers.
Minimum age to volt is 12.
Dates: June 23 │ July 21 │ August 18
Times: 4:45-9:15pm
TOGETHERHOOD Projects
The Togetherhood Committee is run on an annual
basis by Y members in partnership with their
local Y. Togetherhood gives Y members a chance
to give back to their community by organizing
and participating in service projects that benefit
organizations and programs outside of the
YMCA.
