Tread Principles Jeopardy

Tread Principles Jeopardy
Objectives:
 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Tread Lightly! Principles
Duration: Allow a minimum of 30 minutes to 45 minutes.
Materials: Jeopardy Power Point (computer and projector) or Dry Erase Board (to create a Jeopardy Board ), bells or
other noise makers, question and answer form for the game show host.
The Activity:
Step 1: Set up the Jeopardy board
Step 2: Divide your students into 3 teams. Teams can deliberate and answer together. Give them about 5 seconds to
make their decision. The answer must be provided in the form of a question. For instance “Who is…” or “What is….”
Example:
The game show host might say, "This is an outdoor ethics for motorized and mechanized recreation.”
The contestant would reply, “What is Tread Lightly!?”
Step 3: Start the game with Travel Responsibly for 10.
Step 4: The instructor will read the question for the associated category.
Step 5: The first team to use their noise maker will be selected to answer. If the first contestant answers incorrectly, the
same question will go to the next team that uses the noise maker. The first contestant to answer the question correctly
is awarded the points on the flip chart or on the board. If none of the contestants know the answer, review the answer
with the group. No penalty is given for incorrect answers. Use the cover squares to cover the points already chosen.
Step 8: When all of the questions have been asked, move on to the “Final Round.” For the “Final Jeopardy” read all the
instructions to the students prior to beginning. Hand out a piece of paper and a pen to each team.
Instructions for Final Jeopardy: Give the teams the name of the category they will be discussing. Have the teams
discuss how many of their points they want to wager on the category. They may not use more points than they accrued.
Write the wagered amount next to the team’s number. Ask the question for the category. Give each team one minute to
discuss and decide on an answer. If they answer correctly, award them the number of points they wagered. If they
answer incorrectly, deduct their wager from their total score.
If possible provide prizes for the winning team. A Tread Lightly! sticker, candy etc.
