ROUND 9 WRAP

ROUND 9 WRAP
Division One Seniors
By Kevin Hillier
The second half of the season begins and the question is, are we any wiser as to the final outcome of 2015? The answer
is No. That’s how it should be.
We can rule out Albion, Port Colts and Sunshine from finals action and that is not being harsh, just honest .The latter of
those three is the most surprising. Fair to say they lost a few good players but the return of Wiggins and Millar along
with the players the new coach brought had me thinking they would challenge, but it has not turned out that way. They
have the bye this weekend.
Every round 10 game has a story to tell.
Can Albion post its first win of the season over Port Melbourne Colts? Yes they can and to be honest they need to. That
is not taking anything away from the Colts, but I think they need a massive rebuild on the field, and they need it very
quickly. I do think they have the right people in place to make it happen and that is a huge bonus.
The other three games are top shelf. Hoppers Crossing will face a very different St. Albans side this week than they
played on Good Friday. The Saints are up and about. Their options to score are numerous and they have some genuine
leg speed which they have lacked in recent times. The Warriors have lost two on the trot, and a third would put them
behind the 8 ball in a very tight contest for a top three finish.
Altona have a lot of talent, we all acknowledge that, but their consistency is the issue. They need to knock over a few of
the sides above them in the next few weeks or they will be spectators come finals time.
Spotswood will host Deer Park this week as the two top teams of recent times clash once again. Can Spotswood win? Of
course they can, but they won’t.
I have been impressed by the way Deer Park has brought younger players into the mix this year. They are quality and
have added to the talent already there. They are not invincible by any stretch, but they are pretty bloody good by any
standard. I think Marc Bullen is coaching better now, than at any time in his time in this league. He might not have as
many big names but he has the opportunity to really develop a winning system. He is doing that.
