Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national Career and
Technical Student Organization that provides personal growth, leadership development, and
career preparation opportunities for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education. Tobin
McGee and Alex Stowers represented Pleasant Hill Elementary School at the State FCCLA
Competition. PHS Archery Team did their school proud with the Elementary Team scoring
2358 with a rank of 15 out of 20. The Middle Team scored 2816 with a ranking of 18 out of 32.
Archers shoot 15 arrows from both 10 and 15 meters for a possible score of 300. Top elementary
archers from Pleasant Hill were Cayden Matthews (231), Clay Mullen (225) and Savanna Lewis
(177). Among Middle School archers Chase Mullen of Pleasant Hill was third with 256.
Several ongoing fundraisers by the PTO help support activities at PHS such as the
Cookies and Milk sales, Skate Night and recent Boston Butt and Barbecue Sale. STAR testing
was held from April 4 through April 13. Everyone is looking forward to the Talent Show this
Friday, April 22 at 6 pm. TNReady Part 2 testing begins May 2nd and parents are asked to be
sure children are well-rested and ready to do their best. End-of-the-Year Academic Awards will
be held on May 13. The Spring Formal Dance is on May 14, and 8th Grade Recognition will be
held on May 16 at 6 pm.
At the April Pleasant Hill Town Council Meeting, the Council voted to
show appreciation for all of the PHS staff: teachers, aides, maintenance, kitchen, and bus drivers
with gift cards. Hickory Hill and West Lake streets have some drainage runoff issues that the
Town will work on correcting. Although FEMA has approved 90% of the first $16,000 disaster
expenses, the check has not arrived as yet. The approval of the second disaster expenses is in the
works. The Town Brush Dump will be closed and the Council is investigating other methods
of disposing of the brush picked up by Town Maintenance every Tuesday or after weather
events. Applications for the two open positions on the Council to be voted on in November need
to be picked up at the Election Commission in Crossville and filed by May 20. Hopefully there
will be several Pleasant Hill residents willing to serve in this important way.
Brad Allamong, President of the Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce brought a
resolution to the PH Council stating “Community Economic/Community Development
Cooperative Agreement among City of Crossville, Cumberland County, Crossville-Cumberland
County Chamber of Commerce, Crab Orchard, Pleasant Hill, Cumberland County Board of
Education, Roane State Community College, TN College of Applied Technology,
Crossville Joint Economic & Community Development Board, and the
Industrial Development Board” to support the community’s Horizon Initiative. The Council gave
tentative authorization for Mayor Diane Savage to sign the Resolution, depending on the
final wording of the Resolution when passed by all of the above named parties.
