St. Aidan’s CE Primary School
Policy for Pupil Premium 2015-2016
The targeted and strategic use of pupil premium funds will support us in
achieving our vision ‘working together aiming for excellence’
Mission Statement
At St. Aidan’s we aim to create a happy, caring environment, where we can
all feel safe and valued in order to live and learn as children of God.
Principles
 We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs
of all pupils.
 We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong
to vulnerable groups. This includes ensuring that the needs of
socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately addressed. In making
these provisions we recognise that not all children in receipt of
free school meals will be socially disadvantaged and that those not
registered or who do not qualify for free school meals may be
socially disadvantaged.
 At St. Aidan’s CE Primary School, there are currently 107 pupils
for whom the school is in receipt of pupil premium, this amounts to
£124 000.
 In order not to disadvantage any pupil or to draw attention to
pupils to whom this applies, we reserve the right to allocate the
Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the
school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged.
 Pupil Premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis
which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited
funding and resources means that not all pupils in receipt of free
school meals will be receiving Pupil Premium interventions at one
time.
Provision
The range of provisions that may be considered for this group of pupils
could include;
 Reducing class sizes, thus improving opportunities for effective
Assessment for learning and accelerating progress.
 Providing small group work with an experienced teacher or teaching
assistant focussed on narrowing the gap or overcoming barriers to
learning.
 1-1 support.



Additional learning opportunities provided by experienced school
staff or external agencies.
All our work provided through Pupil Premium will be aimed at
accelerating progress moving pupils to at least age related
expectations. This will be predominantly in English and Maths.
Pupil Premium resources may also be sued to target able pupils in
receipt of free school meals to achieve Level 3 or Level 5.
Provision will not be directed generally to pupils who have funding
from other sources.
Provisions for Pupil Premium 2015-2016
Targeted interventions
 Progress is assessed and reported on every half term. This leads to
the targeted intervention that is delivered by our highly skilled
Teaching Assistants (L3). This then informs termly progress
meetings where once again the impact of interventions are
assessed and reviewed, allowing appropriate changes and
improvements to be made.
High Quality In Class Support
 All Teaching Assistants are level 3 qualified or are working towards
this. One TA is an HLTA and 2 more are working towards gaining
this qualification.
 PPA is covered by an experienced teacher who has worked in our
school for a number of years, therefore the quality of teaching and
learning is not affected or does not suffer.
Curriculum
 Our curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of our pupils and the
community that we serve. It is rich with educational visits (at least
1 visit per half term) and experiential learning to promote progress
across the curriculum.
 Our pupils have opportunities to use and apply what they have
learned in lessons, working in a variety of ways i.e. with other
pupils, independently, outside agencies or other schools.
Support and Guidance outside the School Day
 Breakfast Club
 After School Clubs throughout the year for all Key Stages.

Early Years
 There is a high staff ratio in Foundation Stage setting to enable
pupils with poor language skills to have 1-1 time with highly
focussed professionals.
Reporting
It will be the responsibility of the Headteacher, or delegated member of
staff, to provide the following information by way of an Annual Report for
the Curriculum Committee on;
 The progress made towards narrowing the gap, by year group for
socially disadvantaged pupils.
 An outline of the provisions made since the last Annual Report.
 An evaluation of the effectiveness of the provisions when
compared with other forms of support.
This information will be made available to the Governing Body and a
statement included for parents on how Pupil Premium funding has been
used to address the issue of narrowing the achievement gap for socially
disadvantaged children.
