June 26-29 TAIKO JAPANESE DRUMMING (grades 4-7) (Student Union - Community Room) Taiko is the artistic & powerful discipline of Japanese ensemble drumming, performed by warriors. Odaiko Sonora from Tucson will be teaching students basic Taiko techniques and the art of performance. The camp concludes with a performance on the last day. June 5-8 CREATIVE WRITING (grades 6-8) (Computer Rm 1203) Join us for a week of creative writing – short stories about yourself, including family, pets, hobbies, dreams, goals, issues you want to put out there. Each day is a new piece and the end result is a take-home book. Presentations on last day. VIDEO GAME DESIGN I (grades 6-10) (Computer Rm 1204) This session introduces the Game Maker game engine. Topics include basic game design concepts and the Game Maker interface. Students will create a small 2D game and present them on the last day. SMALL ENGINE MECHANIC (grades 7-10) (CTE Classroom & Construction Lab) 8:00 am – Noon. Students will learn the basics of small engine operation, tear apart and re-build multiple types of engines and experience real-life applications. ENGINEERING I (grades 4-6) (Library – outside room 900) Students will be introduced to basic engineering & electrical concepts: torque, force, sheer & stress, simple circuits, and lighting. Students will design, build & deck out a wooden structure for competition. ROBOTICS I (grades 4-6) (Library – outside room 900) No programming experience required. Learn to build and program EV3 robots including sensors for LEGO competitions. June 12-15 MUSIC THEATRE (grades 6-8) (Music Rms. 708 & 709) 8:00 am – Noon. Do you have a flair for the stage and love the drama? Come join us for music theatre camp. Learn to sing, act, and put on a show for your family and friends. INTRO to PAINTING/DRAWING (grades 4-7) (Art Rm. 401) Explore various drawing methods and media to create a still life, portrait, landscape and nonrepresentational work of art. Some drawing experience helpful, but basics will be covered. Students will also learn about artists and art history with each project. ROBOTICS II (grades 5-7) (Library – outside room 900) Prior experience in programming LEGO robots necessary. Students will perform more complicated tasks using the LEGO EV3 Robotics systems, including more advanced programming. VIDEO GAME DESIGN II/RPG (grades 6-10) (Computer Rm 1204) This session continues using more advanced elements of the Game Maker game engine. Students will create their own 2D RPG games similar to the 2D Legend of Zelda genre of games. Demonstrations on the last day. June 19-22 DANCE! (grades 4-6) (Fitness Center Dance Room) Students will learn basic dance moves for flexibility, fitness, and FUN! Camp concludes with a short dance performance with simple costumes on the last day. NEW INE ONL ION!! TRAT REGIS CYBER SECURITY (grades 4-6) (Computer Rm 1204) This session introduces students to basic Cyber Security principles as well as Internet & social media safety -- using hands-on, interactive exercises. There will be both individual and group activities, learning the basics of operating a Windows computer with cyber security in mind. July 10-13 SEW FUN! (grades 6-8) (Science Rm. 1106) This class is a BEGINNING experience with sewing machines. Students will have the opportunity to learn basic sewing techniques through completing a series of increasingly complex sewing projects. ENGINEERING II (grades 5-7) (Library – outside room 900) Prerequisite for 5-6 graders Engineering I. Students will learn physics concepts of PV/solar power, force and motion. Students will design and build scale-sized hovercraft & solar car for competition races. July 17-20 ROCK BAND (grades 6-8) (Music Rms. 708 & 709) No Prior instrumental experience needed. Student will learn the basics of playing an instrument, reading music, learning how to perform and working together with their peers. Camp concludes with a short concert. ROBOTICS II (grades 5-7) (Library – outside room 900) 8:00 am – Noon. Prior experience in programming LEGO robots necessary.
