Social Leagues
11-a-side Football Rules and Regulations
1. Fixtures
1.1 All fixtures, league tables and results can be accessed via our fixtures administration system, SportPAD.
Visit http://leeds.sportpad.net//
1.2 All fixtures for semester 1 will be done in advance of the leagues starting and will be viewable via
SportPAD. Fixtures for semester 2 will be done following promotions and relegations at the end of semester 1.
1.3 ALL fixtures must be fulfilled. Teams will not be allowed to cancel fixtures except in extreme circumstances
and following the necessary procedure (see point 2.4)
1.4 When fixtures are cancelled due to bad weather, a decision will be made by the facility staff as early as
possible. When an early decision is possible, all team captains will be informed via email and a message
posted on the SportPAD homepage. When an early decision isn’t possible, it is the responsibility of the team
captain to ring Weetwood Sports Park on 0113 275 1347 to confirm if the fixture is cancelled.
1.5 All fixtures cancelled due to weather will be rescheduled for the catch up weeks at the end of the semester
if possible.
2. Failure to Attend (FTA)
2.1 All fixtures MUST be fulfilled on the date scheduled. Games will not be rescheduled for teams
who are not able to field a team for a fixture.
2.2 A 3 strike policy will operate for teams who repeatedly fail to attend (FTA)
Concede game with advance warning
1. Warning given to offending team and walkover of 10-0 awarded to opposition
2. Offending team deducted 1 point from the league and walkover awarded to opposition
3. Team immediately removed from league with no refund given
Concede game without advance warning
1. Warning given to offending team and walkover of 15-0 awarded to opposition
2. Offending team deducted 3 points from the league and walkover awarded to opposition
3. Team immediately removed from league with no refund given
2.3 Where a team fails to attend a fixture without emailing [email protected] and without
contacting the opposition’s captain by the deadline time (see point 2.4), the offending team must also pay a
£25 fine to cover the cost of the referee and travel expenses of the opposition. If this fine is not paid to Emma
in the Sport Office in the Student Union before the next fixture, the team will automatically be removed from
the league with no registration fee refund.
2.4 If a team informs the opposition and [email protected] of their inability to fulfil a fixture by the
deadline day/time, the £25 fine will not apply but the 3 strike policy will still be enforced. The deadline
day/times are as follows:
League
Wednesday League Teams
Saturday League Teams
Sunday League Teams
Deadline
Tuesday 12pm
Friday 12pm
Friday 12pm
Any cancellations after this deadline will incur the £25 fine.

3. Squad
3.1 All intramural 11-a-side football teams must have a minimum of 16 players and a maximum of 25 players
registered as part of their seasonal squad sheet in order to participate in the league.
3.2 On any given fixture, a maximum squad size of 15 players is permitted (substitute rules detailed in point 4)
3.3 The squad must be finalised before the first league games (Wednesday 14 th October, Saturday 17th
October and Sunday 18th October) and completed electronic squad sheets (with full student names, student
numbers and date of births) need to be emailed to [email protected]
Failure to meet these deadlines will jeopardise a team’s place in the league
3.4 All players MUST have a SPA membership or pay the social football fee (see point 5 for specific details)
3.5 Players can be added in or moved out of a squad, but only during the transfer windows during the first 3
weeks of each semester’s league and while still adhering to the maximum of 25 players per squad.
3.6 The full details of any new players must be emailed to [email protected] and authorisation
given before the player is permitted to play, to ensure the team still adheres to the membership rules (see
section 5). The squad sheets will be amended accordingly. If a new player is found playing before he is
registered, the team will incur a strike* regardless of whether this player has a membership or not. If a team
incurs 3 strikes they will automatically be removed from the league with no registration refund given.
* strikes are given for this rule breach and for any player who fails to bring a student card or proof of
identification (rule 5.4), with the 3 strikes being a total of either of these breaches. The ‘failure to attend’ strike
system is separate.
4. Substitutes
4.1 Teams are permitted a maximum of 4 substitutes per game.
4.2 Rolling substitutes are allowed but teams should not take advantage of this by making substitutions with
excessive frequency, thereby delaying the game. This is at the discretion of the referee.
4.3 Substitutes must keep their team shirts covered up when not on the pitch, ideally with bibs.
4.4 Substitutions may only take place when play has stopped and the referee has authorised the change.
5. Membership
5.1 All players registered as part of a squad MUST have a SPA membership* or must have paid the social
football fee of £40 for the season.
*A sports pass is included as a SPA membership
5.2 All players listed on the squad sheet MUST have taken out a membership or paid the social football fee
before the squad sheet is submitted. It is the captain’s responsibility to ensure their players have
purchased a membership before including them on the squad sheet. Squad players will be checked for
memberships when squad sheets are submitted and all teams will be membership checked weekly with strikes
incurred for any players without a membership.
5.3 The social football fee payment can be made at Weetwood Sports Park during the first week of friendly
matches (Wednesday 7th October, Saturday 10th October and Sunday 11th October). It can be paid in cash at
North Pavilion or by card or cash at Weetwood site. It can also be purchased from the Edge reception at any
time, please ensure your players retain their receipt of payment.
5.4 Membership spot checks will be conducted weekly to ensure teams are only playing players from their
squad sheet. Captains will be expected to collect in, and present to reception, all student cards for their team
playing that day. Therefore all players MUST bring their student card or a form of photo identification each
week. Any player not providing valid proof of identification will incur a strike for their team. If a team incurs 3
strikes* they will automatically be removed from the league with no registration refund given.
* strikes are given for this rule breach and rule 3.4 with the 3 strikes being a total of either of these breaches.
The ‘failure to attend’ strike system is separate.
5.5 Any team found to be playing players without a membership, a social football fee or a guest player who
hasn’t paid the £5 non-member fee will be charged a £5 fine for that player and if this isn’t paid the team will
be automatically removed from the league.
6. Guest Players
6.1 If a team struggles to field a team from their squad players on any given week they are permitted to play a
guest player.
6.2 A guest player reports to reception to sign in, giving their team name, showing their student card or photo
identification and paying the £5 non-member fee.
6.3 Teams are permitted to play a maximum of 4 guest players for a match.
6.4 Guest players can play no more than 2 games per semester.
7. Punctuality
7.1 Matches should kick off at 2pm, with 3G games kicking off at 12.15 and 4pm (Wednesdays), 12.15 and
2.15pm (Saturdays) and 1.15pm and 3.15pm (Sundays)
7.2 Teams not ready to kick off by 10 minutes after the official kick-off time, will concede a goal to the
opposition, with one further goal being awarded for every three additional minutes they are late. This will be
overseen by the referee.
7.3 A team may kick-off with less than eleven players, though a minimum of seven is required.
8. Cards
8.1 Card offences are non disputable.
8.2 Players are charged a £5 fine for a yellow card and £10 for a red card.
8.3 Teams are suspended from their fixtures until their players’ card fines are paid. Fines must be paid to
Emma in the Sports Office in the Student Union by 12pm the day before your next fixture (Friday for Sunday
teams).

fixture is void.
8.5 A 3 strike policy will operate for teams who continue to not pay their card fine. On the third occasion, the
team will be removed from the league with no registration refund given.
9. Booking Pitches for Training
9.1 The Weetwood 3G pitch, outdoor 5-a-side courts and The Edge indoor facilities can be booked for training
if desired but the normal Sport & Physical Activity casual booking procedure must be followed (appendix 1)
and casual booking Terms & Conditions apply.
9.2 When making a booking for an intramural training session, the booking must be made under the name of
the person making the booking and the intramural team name must also be given.
9.3 Bookings can only be made for a one hour slot.
9.4 Grass pitches cannot be booked for training/friendlies.
9.5 Facilities are constantly in high demand (especially the 3G pitch) so when this is available we would
encourage you to book space that is appropriate for your group size. We recommend the following ratios:
Group Size
10-14 people
15-28 people
30+ people
Facility booking
1/3 of 3G pitch
2/3 of 3G pitch
Full 3G pitch

10.2 Footballs can be hired from reception on presentation of a student card and a £10 refundable deposit. If
the ball is lost the £10 deposit will be retained by the Weetwood staff.
10.3 A student card is required as a deposit for a changing room key at North Pavilion site but a £10 deposit is
required at Weetwood Site.
10.4 Any student cards that are retained or are not collected will be brought over to Weetwood Sports Park

Appendix 1
Casual Booking Procedure
Artificial Pitches/Indoor Sports Halls
If you are a University of Leeds Student or member of Staff, and you have a membership with Sport and
physical Activity (SPA), then you are able to book the artificial pitches and sports halls without making a
payment. Anyone who attends and is not a member must pay £5 if they are a student or member of staff, or
£5.50 if they are a public non-member.
The IM Football Fee is not a membership and so does not allow you to book a pitch or participate in training
for free.
If you do not have a membership with SPA then you may still book one of these facilities, but you would need
to make a payment at the time of booking for the full price of that facility. By booking this way, everyone who
plays can access the pitch without payment at Reception.
These bookings can be made up to two weeks in advance through our Reception team. The following
numbers have access to the booking system and can take a booking across all facilities:
Edge Reception 0113 3435095
Gryphon Reception 0113 3436771
Weetwood Reception (after 4.30pm weekdays, 9-7 weekends) 0113 275 1347
