CASE STUDY SECOND SCREEN MOBILE STRATEGY FOR A LEADING EUROPEAN BROADCASTER A leading European TV network, a client of Conmio’s since 2010, approached us in 2013 looking for a solution to increase viewer engagement and interaction on mobile for their flagship show Big Brother both during the airing of the show and between broadcasts. STRATEGY Offer a compelling experience We started from scratch to create a mobile experience that would deliver new ways of engagement for viewers. Our focus was to understand the user and what their entertainment and information needs were that a mobile service could provide during the programs season. Our target was to create smartphone and tablet experiences that form an engaging, social-driven service which would be valuable to the viewers, our client and their advertisers.. DESIGN Building natural flow As real-time polling and Twitter-based interactions synced to the broadcast show, the 2nd screen experience had to be easy to use and immediate in interaction responses. A clear UI/UX was important in order for the mobile experience to complement and not distract from the TV viewing experience. TECHNOLOGY Unified cohesion A key requirement of this project was to have the mobile service supported by a technology that could handle and scale with multiple backend systems and third-party APIs. The Conmio Software Suite allowed us to develop an integration environment that combined all required components to bring the experience to life, from Tellyo’s TV moment sharing to Twitter streams and the clients APIs. ensuring their investment is scalable and adaptable across other program brands and formats. RESULTS Surpassing expectations The Big Brother 2nd screen service launch was the most successful ever, serving 77 000 visitors who loaded 773 000 pages and sent 22 000 tweets with the official hashtag on its first day, receiving rave reviews in traditional and social media.
