There’s No “I” in Team
Let’s Review Our Vocabulary:
Entrepreneur:
 A person who starts or organizes a
business.
 Innovative:
 Something new, original, or
groundbreaking that people want.

“No matter what
accomplishments you make,
somebody helped you.”
- Althea Gibson
Do you agree with this
statement?
Why or why not?
Why is working together as a team
so important to being successful in
business?
Today you will learn about
the importance of
teamwork in the successful
operation of a business.
Did you remember to sit with your
business team?
Working Together

Each member of your
team has skills and
talents.

It’s important to use
everyone’s skills and
talents. That’s the
way to be the best
team you can be.
“Teamwork” is the
cooperative effort of
members of a group to
achieve the same goal.
Have you ever been on a winning
team of any kind?
What is it that made your team
successful?
There is no “I” in
“teamwork”.
What does this saying mean?
In order to work effectively as a
team, everyone needs to be
committed to working together to
accomplish the same overall goal.
Please open your workbook to page
68. You will have two minutes to
work silently alone to come up
with the names of as many
businesses as you possibly can.
Ready?...............
 Go!

Stop!

Which member of your team came up with
the most names?
Now combine your team
members’ lists to one
master list and count how
many businesses your team
thought of together. Some
of you may have thought of
the same businesses. Just
count that business once.
It’s interesting to notice the
different team strategies for
making a master list. Which
team was done first?
Which list is longer, the list of your
top individual, or the team’s
combined list?
“The whole is greater than
the sum of its parts.”
What does this mean?
The goal of every business team is
to have a well run business, where
every employee gets along well
with each other.
Let’s review the five steps of
SMART decision making:
 Stop
and think about your
options.
 Make a plan before deciding.
 Ask questions and consider
consequences.
 Reflect.
 Take action.
