 Tony Thomas, Clotfelter-Samokar Architect, presented the Construction Report.
 Debbie Frazier, CFO, presented the Finance Report.
 Superintendent Thomas –Superintendent Thomas’ report included: Thanking Assistant
Superintendent Gilliam for presenting last month to the board the district’s delivery targets
for Student Proficiency, College & Career Readiness, Graduation Rates and Closing the
Achievement Gaps. Thanking Assistant Superintendent Debbie Frazier on the budget that
now reflects the addition of the local tax rate revenue. Two items of discussion were: the New
Professional Growth Evaluation System, or PGES, as many know it by. Superintendent
Thomas stated, “Our district has been working for well over a year with the ongoing training
of PGES. The goal is that all certified district staff be prepared for the beginning of the 20142015 school year and we are confident that we have the supports in place to be ready to fully
implement the plan by the required timetable. The second item has to do with the most
recent TELL Survey with respect to the area of facilities. According to our district TELL
survey report, the district is showing considerable improvement in professional support
personnel, having a clean, well maintained, and adequate space to work productively and the

physical environment of classrooms support teaching and learning. The area where we
declined had to do with sufficient access to instruction technology and the reliability and
speed of Internet connections. As the Board heard from Mr. Moore last month, we have a
plan to improve the access and Mr. Moore or I will update you as we move along throughout
the year.” Lastly, Superintendent Thomas thanked the board for their bold leadership in
putting a plan in place to implement full day kindergarten for the next school year
SHOWCASE
 The Madison Middle School Jazz Band performed “Moves Like Jagger” under the
conduction of Mr. Kerry Evans. The MMS Jazz Band is a completely extra-curricular
activity and it meets once a week after school for an hour and a half. This band is open to
7th & 8th graders and there are about 30 students involved. The MMS Jazz Band performs
in combinations with the regular band classes about 3-4 times per year.
 Kingston Elementary School students shared an example of their discovery and application
classes. 20 applied learning experience classes called “Discovery and Application” flex
classes are offered to students in grades 3-5 for the purpose of helping students generalize
their learning across all content areas. Tonight the students explained how they worked to
make QR codes and what information could be retrieved from those QR codes.
