JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SUPPORT WORKER - TRAVEL TRAINER (Stockport) Main purpose of the Job: Within the guidelines laid down by Management, to support young people learn how to travel independently. Key Areas of responsibility 1. To work 35 hours a week over 5 days. Core hours are between 7:30 – 10:00 and 14:30 – 17:00 to provide travel training in real-time on a young person’s journey to/from school. The remaining hours can be worked flexibly but must meet the needs of the travel training service, including occasional evening/weekend work. 2. To deliver travel training plans to young people on journeys to/from school/college in real-time (morning and afternoon journeys) to enable them to develop independent travel and problem solving skills. 3. To deliver travel training programs to young people during school hours to enable them to develop independent travel and problem solving skills. 4. To adopt a flexible approach to the hours worked to attend supervisions and training outside of core hours in accordance to the needs of the service user and the organisation 5. Liaise with travel training co-ordinator /school/parents regularly to monitor and evaluate progress of young people both verbally and in writing. 6. To participate in risk assessments and maintain good safety procedures for students when out in the community 7. To identify, risk assess and follow safe and appropriate journeys for the individual. 8. Implement best practice in safeguarding across all areas of the business, demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding young people and adults at risk and a willingness to raise any concerns with management 9. To work with the schools identified and liaise with school staff as appropriate 10. To keep accurate daily records as required both written and using a computer, adhering to required deadlines. 11. To use daily assessments to make decisions about a client’s progress and moving them through the stages of the travel training process and to make recommendations about when a young person is ready and safe to start travelling independently. 12. To liaise with parents/carers and other professionals to promote the project and gain their support 13. To monitor previous client’s progress, report any concerns to management and maintain professional relationships with families. 14. Assist with the planning of travel training plans, including assessing routes and development of resources required for the travel training team; including in an accessible format when required 15. To work with the travel training co-ordinator to promote independent travel training and raise awareness of the project through group work in schools and attending parent information events. 16. To produce and develop promotional materials for travel training (e.g. videos, case studies, photographs.) 17. To manage and record own time and to complete weekly progress reports. 18. Attend staff meetings and contribute to the smooth running and development of the organisation 19. To attend appropriate in house and/or external training and development sessions / days 20. To comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures 21. To carry out such other duties as the Chief Executive of Pure Innovations Ltd may from time to time require.
