Men`s Softball Rules - Southern Sports Leagues

Men’s Softball Rules:
1. 10 Players
2. Batters start with a 1-1 count
3. Lineups: If a team bats in the wrong order, and the player has not batted yet, then they may fix it with
no penalty.
4. Lineups: If a team bats out of order and the opposing team or umpire/staff catches it, after the player
has batted then the batter who batted out of order is out and the next hitter is up. The lineup must
also be changed to the correct order going forward.
5. Teams must have at least 8 players to play.
6. Teams may bat as many players as they want.
7. If a Batter hits a line drive and hits the Pitcher with the ball, the Batter is out and all runners must
return to their previously occupied base. This applies to males and females.
8. 2 HR Limit, then 1 Up. Each team must hit their 2 HR to be awarded an additional HR. If both teams
hit 3 HR then they are each awarded an additional HR, etc. All HR over the limit are outs.
9. Teams must hit league provided balls
10. Bats must be ASA, or USSSA Approved. No Senior Bats Allowed
11. 55 Minute Time Limit- No new innings after 55 Minutes.
12. No Faking or Juking by the pitcher.
13. All Pitchers are advised to wear a mask. Pitchers must supply their own mask.
14. Teams that win a division may be required to move up to the next higher division the following
season, if one is offered on their night of play. ex. A team that wins social must move up to
intermediate. Teams may move back the following season, pending their results
15. Run Rule: 10 Runs after 5 Innings
16. 1 Courtesy runner per sex per inning is allowed. If the courtesy runner is on base and their spot
comes up to bat in the batting lineup, then the batter is out. They may remain on base as the runner.
17. SUBSTITUTION: All teams must follow the Substitution Policy: No Exceptions.
18. Any player ejected from a game must sit out a minimum of 1 week. If that team is on a bye or the
teams games have been rained out, they must sit out the next day of play for that league and any
other leagues they participate in during that time period.
19. A team that forfeits more than 2 games may not participate in playoffs.
20. Base runners are required to use the outside bad, if present, unless rounding the base. The fielder
must always use the inside bag, unless they are avoiding contact. It is the umpire’s call as to whether
the player was avoiding contact.

spot if a team is short a female.
