WELCOME back to another exciting term of teaching and learning. This term we are
looking forward to seeing many entries from all levels of the school.
Remember to continue using the great maths strategies you know, together with a
growth mindset approach.

BOUNCY BALL
ODD NUMBERS
Calculate the sum of every odd
number between one and 99;
Emma had a five dollar
note. She exchanged it
with her brother Sam, for
five coins. What were the
five coins?
E.g.: 1+3+5+……+97+99.
COMMUNITY
Each time a bouncy ball bounces,
it bounces to half the height from
which it falls. If Jack drops a ball
from a building and it rises to a
height of 24 metres, how high will
it bounce on the fifth bounce?

MUSIC NEWS
Welcome to another action packed term in the Music Room!
Students at every level in our school have enjoyed playing our new marimbas this
week. As part of our learning goals we established challenges, such as finding the
right note and keeping in time, as well as successes, such as playing as part of a
group and sounding harmonious. Thanks to the Grade 5/6 students and Ros
Whiteman for organising thankyou cards to the Wonthaggi Men’s Shed and Ian
Chambers, our builders and workshop leader. Students will be decorating our 4 new
marimbas in Art next week. Thankyou to Pirili Chapman for her leadership in this area.
Our studies this term will focus on World Music; discovering where instruments have originated from around
the world and songs celebrating different cultures. As such we will welcome Shabba, an African Australian,
to our school on Tuesday the 2nd August. He will lead a full day of African dance and drumming. Families are
welcome to attend, so look for more information in the newsletter in the coming weeks.
