Coombe Bissett High Fives Team WIN the Salisbury High Fives

29th March 2017
Dear Parents,
Coombe Bissett High Fives Team WIN the Salisbury High Fives League!
I am thrilled to share the fantastic news that our school’s High Fives Team our now the champions of the Salisbury High
Fives League. Having finished top of their pool in the first round, the team went onto the final stages at Five Rivers
Leisure Centre yesterday. Their semi-final match was a thrilling game against Harnham Junior School. Both teams
played at an incredibly high standard and at full time the score was two goals each. The match then went to a ‘Golden
Goal’ finish. Everyone watched the ball travel from end to end however it was Abi Wareham who scored the winning
goal. The team then went on to play Sarum St Pauls in the final. Again the game was very tight right up to the last
quarter. The final score was 6 – 4 to Coombe Bissett. I would like to congratulate the whole team (Elizabeth Webster,
Abi Wareham, Olivia Maple, Alex Downer, Pearl Harrington, Lucy Howarth, Arran Solomons, Miguel Hinojosa-Berrocal
and Dylan Solomons) on an outstanding performance; they demonstrated amazing resilience and commitment and
thoroughly deserve their success. There is also a special congratulations to Alex Downer who was awarded the ‘Players
Player’ for the teams in pool one; a thoroughly deserved recognition of her quality of play and her sportsmanship. I
would also like to thank Bab Yates and Mrs Maple (Olivia and Rosie’s Mummy) who have run our High Fives Club this
year and supported our team so well.
Folk Song Concert
Following their very successful workshop day with Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman
(https://www.kathrynrobertsandseanlakeman.com/) the children in Fir Class were given the opportunity to go to their
concert in Bishopstone Village Hall and to perform the songs they had worked on during the workshop. It’s not every
day you get the opportunity to perform with internationally acclaimed musicians but last Friday five of our Fir Class
children (Martha, Kezia, Julia, Isaac and Max) did! Children and families had a wonderful evening with the children
being treated as VIPs (free food and drinks) as well as a great reception from the audience. We are very grateful to the
Pound Arts Rural Touring scheme for inviting us to be part of the project and to Wiltshire Music Connect and Wiltshire
Rural Music School for funding this amazing opportunity.
Red Nose Day Talent Show and Fundraising
Thank you to everyone for supporting this year’s Red Nose Day. The whole school community were involved in making
this year’s one of our most successful raising a fantastic total of £160.46. Congratulations to all the children who took
part in the Talent Show. Once again the range of talents was very broad including musical performances, dancing, hoola
hooping, puppet shows, skipping and comedy. As well as a big thank you to our School Council for organising the day a
special thank you to Mrs Macaulay and Mr Wyatt who used their lunch breaks to support all the performers by providing
them with an opportunity to rehearse their act.

Life Education Mobile Classroom
Thank you to those parents who have already sent in a contribution towards this wonderful resource. As a school we
recognise the importance of providing rich learning opportunities and the support parents, the Friends and the 100
Club give through contributions towards the costs enables us to continue to do this. If you have not yet managed to
send in a £2 contribution towards this event this can still be done through the office. For further information on the
work of the Life Education Mobile Classroom please visit their website www.wiltslec.co.uk.
Oak Class Staffing Update
This year we have been very fortunate to have Mrs Dunford teaching in Oak Class on Fridays while Mrs Bowers has
been on maternity leave. Mrs Bowers will be returning after the Easter holidays. It will be lovely to welcome Mrs Bowers
back and I am pleased that Mrs Dunford will still be returning to do supply cover on occasions. Mrs Bowers will be in
school this Friday, 31st March to meet the children in Oak Class.
Easter Experience: Friday 7th April
For those parents new to our school we have an Easter Experience on the last day of term instead of the traditional
Easter service. On Friday, the children will take part in a workshop in the morning. Working with children from across
the school, the children will explore in depth one part of the Easter story. Then, in the afternoon, everyone is invited
to join the whole school in our top field (weather permitting) at 2pm to begin our Easter Experience with a song of
praise. We will then go on a journey from the Village Hall to Coombe Bissett Church with each group presenting their
part of the story. This is a very special way to finish our term and I hope parents and friends will be able to join us. After
the service everyone will return to school to be collected as normal.
