2017 World Games Nominations – Indoor Rowing
BACKGROUND:
The 2017 World Games will be conducted from 26-30 July in Wroclaw, Poland, and Indoor Rowing events will be
offered as part of the programme for that event, which is targeted at elite athletes.
In accordance with the qualification rules for the event, RA may nominate a maximum of 4 athletes in total to
compete at the 2017 World Games. This document sets out the criteria and process by which Rowing Australia
will nominate individuals to compete at the event.
ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
An athlete must satisfy each of the following eligibility requirements in order to be eligible for nomination by RA
to compete at the 2017 World Games:
1. All athletes must have competed in the 500m or 2000m races at the 2016 Australian Indoor Rowing
Championships.
2. All athletes must read, comply with and fully satisfy the FISA qualification requirements, available at
http://www.worldrowing.com/events/2017-world-games/event-information
3. All eligible athletes wishing to be considered for nomination for competition must confirm their nomination
to Ron Batt ([email protected]) by email by 5:00pm on Friday 10th March 2017.
4. Athletes must not, as at 1st April 2017, currently be selected in or be currently nominated for an Australian
National Team.
5. All athletes must, if requested, sign an RA Participant Agreement.
6. All athletes must fully read, are bound by and must comply with all RA Policies and Standards, including
without limitation the RA Member Protection Policy, Anti-Doping Policy, Privacy Policy, Illicit Drugs in Sport
Policy, Sports Foods, Medical and Performance Supplement Policy and RA Medical Management Policy. All
RA Policies and Standards are available at http://www.rowingaustralia.com.au/rowing-australia-policies/.
7. All athletes must complete all educational programs required by RA, including:
a) ASADA Level 1 Anti-Doping Online Course available at https://elearning.asada.gov.au/
b) Keep Sport Honest Online Course available a https://elearning.sport.gov.au/
8. Each athlete nominated for competition at the World Games must fund the full cost of their attendance at
that event, with the exception of accommodation at the event which is covered by the organising committee.
NOMINATION PROCESS:
9. Subject to an athlete satisfying the Athlete Eligibility Requirements, RA will allocate nomination spots:
a. consistent with the quota of athletes to be nominated per National Federation; and
b. based upon the rankings achieved during the 2016 Australian Indoor Rowing Championships, as
contained within the Concept 2 Ranking Systems, and relative to the fastest World’s Best Time for that
distance.
10. Where a higher ranked eligible athlete is not able to accept the nomination, then RA may nominate the next
highest ranked athlete within the respective National Federation quota spot. If needed the higher percentage
of a World’s Best Time will be used to select an athlete.
