Treat each player as an individual, remembering the large range of emotional and physical development for their age group. Review and practice basic first aid principles needed to treat injuries of players. Organize practices that are fun and challenging for all players. Lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all players. Provide a sports environment that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. I will refrain from their use at all youth sports events. Refrain from the use of profanity and derogatory comments around or towards players. Be knowledgeable of the rules and teach those rules to players. Use appropriate coaching techniques for all of the skills that are being taught. Remember that I am a youth sports coach and that the game is for children and not adults. Assist in the hand out and retrieval of all equipment associated with the team. Never permit an injured player to re-enter a game or practice if further play would jeopardize the player’s health. STYF Coaching Contract All STYF coaching staff is expected to be positive role models for players and families at all times. Coaches agree to uphold the expectations set forth by the STYF Board of Directors/program. As a coach and a representative of STYF I will always abide by and enforce the rules and regulations set forth by the STYF Board of Directors, as well as the rules of the CMYFL. Furthermore, as a coach, my objective must remain consistent with the objective of STYF. Failure to comply will result in suspension or removal. Coaching is a privilege and can be removed at any point of the season. Coaches will never discriminate and will teal all players, coaches, directors, officials, parents and fans with respect regardless of their race, gender, age, creed, sexual orientation, or abilities. Coaches shall have the authority to maintain discipline of their players during practices, games and other STYF events. Practice will last no more than two (2) hours and will be held no more than five times a week. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade practice is permitted to be 2- ½ hours long in the pre-season when school is not in session. Coaches must explain rules and consequences regarding missed practices or games, as well as any additional team rules. Enforce these rules consistently with all your players, no exceptions. Under no circumstances can/will a coach who is not an elected official make executive level decisions concerning the welfare of STYF, it players, the Board of Directors, or any affiliated organization. Coaches are responsible for the safety of their players, including the equipment they wear. Coaches must be sure at all times that his/her players have all the required equipment that is being utilized correctly and in working condition. Coaches will ensure all players receive ample playing time during games. Minimum playing time is defined in Articles 8.9 and 8.10 (STYF by-laws). Coaches who find themselves in legal trouble during an active season that may result in their position/responsibility being questioned must contact the President and/or the Director of Football Operations of STYF immediately. Coaches must always respect game official and hosting organizations. If a coach is removed from a game or facility during a football game, he/she is subject to a full review by the STYF Board of Directors. If a coach is going to be transporting a player for any STYF game/event, he/she must have permission from the parent(s)/legal guardian in order to do so. Coach’s game day attire must be worn to all STYF scrimmages/games and consists of: STYF coaches shirt and/or jacket, khaki shorts or pants; optional STYF hats. Unapproved game day attire would include such items as: blue jeans, dungarees, sweat pants or running pants, random t-shirts. Any coach who is penalized and/or fined by the CMYFL for playing an ineligible player will be subject to review by the STYF Board of Directors. Said coach may be suspended or removed, as well as be responsible for payment of CMYFL fines. Coaches who receive parental complaints, verbal or otherwise, should document said complaint; it is recommended that the head coach also document player attendance, performance, behavior, etc. in this context. The chain of command to handle complaint, comments or other communications from parents shall be as follows: Head Coach, Director of Football Operations and/or President, Board of Directors. It is the coach’s responsibility to make sure all players have been picked up from any STYF function (practice, games, or other STYF events)prior to their departure. Coaches are responsible for communicating with and distributing information to parent(s)/guardian(s) throughout the football season (volunteer information, picture forms, apparel, fundraiser, etc.).
